BEN THORNE

As a waiter for the restaurant I work as part of a close knit team with fellow Waiters, Chefs & Dishwashers.

Together, we provide great customer experience and build personalised friendships with many customers leading to lots revisiting.

My job is to collect orders, serve food and drink and also help prepare meals; all while keeping good customer experience my top priority.

I have learned and developed many skills here and am eager to carry this through my career.

Worked collaboratively with a team of gardeners at a busy garden centre, maintaining landscaped areas
and caring for a wide variety of plants. Responsible for planting, watering, pruning and general upkeep
to ensure high standards of presentation and plant health.

Volunteered with conservation groups across Surrey, working alongside diverse teams to protect and
restore local wildlife habitats. Activities included habitat maintenance, species monitoring, and public
engagement to promote conservation awareness.

I have been given the opportunity to work & understand the behind the scenes of one of the UK's advanced laboratories.

During this placement I have been taken to many different teams throughout APHA and learn all the different methods towards curing and preventing pathogenic outbreaks. Also being granted access into some high security labs and able to carry out low-risk experiments.

I have learned the procedures and factors that have to be met by all the different departments and without the immaculate communication the work would not be abled to be carried out with such efficiency and speed.

Volunteered at Holme Farm, collaborating with a team of volunteers to maintain and enhance the site’s
land and facilities. Assisted with tasks such as habitat management, landscaping, and general upkeep to
improve the environment for wildlife and visitors.
