I have devoted the last 5 years of my life to studying counselling. Previously I spent over twenty years working in various educational settings and have dedicated the last ten years of my life to being a mother. This has allowed me to develop the skills of emotional maturity and excellent communication skills. When communicating with individuals from diverse backgrounds. I have learnt the value of the different approaches that are required, although there should always be patience, care, empathy and sensitivity shown.
After my own personal experiences with counselling and supporting members of my family have led me to be passionate about the importance of good mental health. I am a committed trainee counsellor who believes in the power of counselling to empower and change lives for the better. Wholeheartedly believing in the autonomy of individuals who with support can progress towards self actualisation.
I am particularly interested in the Humanistic approach to counselling and the importance of the therapeutic alliance which can be developed through empathy, UPR and congruence. I particularly like the phenomenological and holistic approaches of Gestalt therapy.
