I believe I am fit for this role due to my prior educational background in Psychology as well my work in the hospitality industry which is heavily dependant on communication and teamwork.
A vital piece of experience I believe adds to my suitability for the internship is my participation in a work experience with the Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust where I was able to speak and learn from multiple psychologists in different fields and at different level of education. I was also able to listen and speak to a couple mental health patients who volunteered to talk to us regarding their experiences, which was a very insightful and thought provoking conversation.
Overall, I believe my current skills and background make me a suitable candidate for this internship and if I am found to be lacking in any area I am prepared to learn and improve.
Some of my responsibilities during my time working at The Steam Packet Inn include:
- Expertly providing food and drink service to customers
- Training new staff members
- Checking in/out hotel residents
- Completing closing tasks such as setting tables
An achievement I am most proud of from my time there is the success of my younger co-workers that I trained when they first started their journey at The Steam Packet Inn.
Skills I improved at the establishment include:
- Communication
- Leadership
- Teamwork
Communication:
Improved over years working in the hospitality industry alongside my participation in programmes such as the National Citizen Service
Teamwork:
Learned during my time working in the hospitality industry, throughout my programme with the National Citizen Service (NCS) and during all of my group presentations for University
Resilience:
Gained through persevering through hard times in my life as well as my work An example being working at an understaffed establishment where it was common for shifts to change and for us to be down a staff member on busy nights
Leadership
Still improving my skill in this area as it is one I am less confident on however leading my group during NCS when we were tasked with creating and executing a plan to help our community helped me feel more comfortable with leading
