Cost Saving Engineer

Jaguar Land Rover
Liverpool
2011.04 - Current
  • I have been at Jaguar Land Rover since April 2011. My current role covers many aspects, our main objectives are to help analyse projects to assess whether or not they are feasible in cost saving. I analyse each individual project with my team and discuss what benefits of each project to then present to JLR senior management teams. I help conduct trials, liaise with my team to carry them out then create reports to attain satisfactory conclusions. I have been working in cost saving engineering role for over 5 years and have helped the company save over £30 million pound in part reduction, material cost, re-negotiation or making parts more common to fit. This has been achieved within our team my role falls under and I have received recognition for this from higher management teams. One of the key roles is to negotiate reduced prices with our current supplier or seek cheaper competitors for optimal savings. I also help carry out the launch of new cars in plant making sure everything is in order from stocks, suppliers delivery date, fitment etc. We carry out in depth reports to show our justification in every aspect of our role to present daily to the respective teams.
  • Managed multiple projects, ensuring timely completion and high-quality work.
  • Cooperated with cross-functional teams during project development stages.
  • Coordinated with other engineers and professionals on large scale projects.
  • Optimised manufacturing processes, resulting in increased efficiency.

Diversity and inclusion manager

Liverpool Football Club
liverpool
2008.04 - 2011.06
  • I was head of the diversity and social inclusion community team based in and around Liverpool. My duties involved developing various communities with football projects and providing better opportunities for our young people in each area. I would also be hands on and coach young people from ages 3-21, arranging timetables for our coaches to visit schools, creating and completing risk assessment forms for health and safety of each child participating. During 08 and 09 I organised, promoted and encouraged children to get involved in “let’s kick racism out of football” programme. Whilst working for Liverpool Football Club my links to my local Unity Youth Centre located in Toxteth where I previously worked came in helpful as I set-up a ‘Kickz’ type session as my own project. I also worked alongside many other premier league clubs and we joined up with Everton F.C on ‘Kickz’ project that seen us attend many deprived communities in and around the Liverpool area. I would help in respect 4 all centre which included working with people with a disability. I went to Switzerland for a Disability Football Camp which lasted 5 days and enjoyed my stay throughout putting on various coaching sessions for young people from different countries. This also involved keeping data such as registers, health and safety reports and up to date project reports. By doing all this it helped me when applying for different types of funding as that was how the community department was run. I would make funding applications for and on behalf of the charity department.
  • Enhanced company culture by implementing diversity and inclusion policies.
  • Worked closely with leadership teams to promote diverse hiring practices.
  • Promoted a positive working environment with equal opportunity initiatives.
  • Developed training programmes for the promotion of workplace diversity.
  • Organised events and campaigns to raise awareness and celebrate diversity.

Youth support worker

Unity Youth Centre
Liverpool
2004.04 - 2008.08
  • I was a youth work team leader and completed my level 2 in youth work whilst working here. I would successfully write and process funding applications and build strong links within the community. I supervised children from the ages of 3-19 in the centre and had to plan activities as part of my job role. I regularly coached football and took part in activities with the children and teenagers. I also created training plans for some of the teenagers and older children that visited the centre to use the gym. I would visit local schools to encourage them to join the youth centre after school instead of hanging around schools, this was called outreach work which worked very well. We also worked with plenty of other youth centres in Merseyside linking together for events such as The Anthony Walker Foundation which is held annually.
  • Promoted healthy lifestyles by organising fitness and wellness programs.
  • Provided vocational guidance for career planning and future prospects.
  • Implemented behaviour management strategies to maintain order within the facility.
  • Facilitated group activities to foster teamwork and communication amongst youth.
  • Coordinated with parents, teachers, social workers for holistic development of youth.
  • Ensured safety guidelines were followed at all times to prevent accidents or injuries.
  • Built strong relationships with young people by providing emotional support and guidance.
