Within this position I worked on behalf of YFR to represent the children’s charity Action Medical Research. I undertook intensive training to pitch the organization to members of the public to support the charity on a monthly basis. My responsibility in this role was to confidently and professionally pitch to the public. Here, I moreover learned the fundamental aspects of sales; confidence, personability, understanding client needs and handling objections.
In this position, I was single-handedly responsible for managing social media promotion for a small health and wellness company. I made sure to post frequently and on schedule across a variety of social media platforms, mainly Instagram and Facebook. I also regularly collaborated with the business owner to brainstorm and co-create social media content. I found this role to be demanding yet rewarding, it gave me essential experience with the modern advertising market and an understanding of the great responsibility which comes from working for an independent business.
In this position I delivered accessible and friendly instruction on how to paint to groups of beginner artists. My responsibilities included creating my own artwork, assisting those learning during the class and contacting venues for events to be hosted. I worked in school classrooms, leisure centres and primarily bars and pubs. This role granted me valuable experience in leadership, organisation, team building, creativity and hospitality.
In collaboration with Newcastle University, I lead two philosophy-based classes to Sixth Form students aged 16-18. I devised lesson plans and class activities, encouraging group participation. This voluntary work offered me experience in teaching, and valuable insight into the minds of young people. This role gave me confidence; in having responsibility over large groups, public speaking and abiding by strict deadlines
I commissioned my own paintings and sculptures independently. In this role I advertised my work online and collaborated with customers directly to craft their desired product. I gained a self-sufficient understanding of the workplace in an environment where I was self-employed, learning to be motivated and be consistently creative.
