As an Emergency Care Practitioner i have gained many skills from various placements that i have attended. I still practice as a Paramedic by attending events like stock car racing, speedway, motocross, polocross, equestrian, festivals and much more. I have been an Emergency Care Practitioner since 2008. During this time i have been placed in OOH. When placed here i see patients face to face at base where i see, treat, discharge or refer. I also do telephone triage where i complete a consultation with the patient over the phone and make a decision whether i can give self care advice, invite to base for an appointment, arrange 999 response or send to the home visiting team. I also go out on the home visiting car to see, treat, discharge or refer these patients to the specialties that is needed. WIC involve treatment of minor illness and injuries. I have 2 yrs experience in 111 as a clinical advisor but also taking 999 calls when the service was over stretched and giving advice and appointments to patients or initiating a 999 response if needed. I have also completed a long assignment in a very busy A+E department where i was on the front desk. This involved triaging the patients as they came in. If they needed cannulation, bloods, ECGs or referral for CXR or scans then this would be requested and carried out by myself. Then once completed i would make a clinical decision of where to send my patient whether it was for minors, majors or resus. This area was very fast paced and mentally exhausting but at the same time fabulous for the experience. I work to set PGDs, JRCALC or liaise with a GP who signs off a prescription i have prepared. My latest experience is working within a GP Practice seeing acute on the day patients.
Current position see’s me working within GP practice settings seeing patients that present as on the day ‘Sit and wait’ for all acute medical presentations. Autonomous patient assessment, treatment and care plans that now since April 2025 allows me to prescribe independently. I also do home visits and HDU transfers within this agency.
