As an experienced Emergency Care Practitioner, I deliver autonomous, high-level clinical care to patients in their own homes, with a particular focus on those receiving palliative support and individuals managing complex co-morbidities. My role encompasses comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning — including ordering and interpreting diagnostic investigations such as blood tests, initiating appropriate pharmacological interventions, and making timely referrals to secondary care when escalation is required. I provide continuity of care, advocate for patient-centred decision-making, and ensure safe, effective management across a broad spectrum of acute and chronic conditions.
In my role as an Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP), I excel in providing comprehensive patient care both in face-to-face consultations at out-of-hours clinics and during home visits. My responsibilities include conducting thorough telephone triage for patients, ensuring timely and accurate assessments. Additionally, I collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals, such as paramedics and technicians, by providing expert input through call backs to enhance patient outcomes. My commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare is reflected in my ability to adapt to diverse patient needs and effectively coordinate with interdisciplinary teams.
I worked in Leicester Urgent Treatment centre where I was a compassionate and dedicated Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP). I would provide high-quality patient care through face-to face consultations in out-of-hours clinics. I am skilled in telephone triage, delivering prompt and accurate assessments, and coordinating call backs to other healthcare professionals.. Adept at patient assessment, care planning, and health education. Demonstrated success working within interdisciplinary teams, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment.
Throughout my career, I have gained extensive experience working in numerous GP surgeries. I thrive in the collaborative and close-knit environment of a GP surgery, where I can provide continuous and personalized care to my patients. My responsibilities include conducting face to-face consultations, performing comprehensive telephone triage, and occasionally making home visits to ensure optimal patient care. I excel at building strong patient relationships and delivering high-quality healthcare services.
As a motivated individual with a strong desire to work within a dynamic and progressive environment, I feel I am capable of being an invaluable asset to the clinical assessment team. I am diligent and punctual as well as respectful to people from any background, with all beliefs. I am an energetic person and enjoy helping others. I have worked in health care for the past 35 years. I am good at adapting and researching with the new medical changes and advances that I have seen throughout that time. I have worked amongst many different staff at different qualification levels, I work well within a multi-disciplinary team and enjoy working with others, however, even though I work well with others, this isn't to say that I cannot work well on my own. Due to my current job, I regularly work on my own conducting home visits in the community and to care homes. Working on my own has taught me how to overcome different scenarios and to think on my feet in situations that can become very tense. My first job in healthcare was in Psychiatry where I started my career as a student nurse. I really enjoyed my time in the psychiatric hospitals. I learned a lot about how to help people suffering with a mental health crisis and how to help teach people coping mechanisms and how to manage their diagnoses. I then decided to leave psychiatry and move to general nursing. During my time as a general adult nurse, I have worked on many different wards in my career such as medical, surgical and haematology. This wide variety has allowed me to have a lot of experience across multiple specialities. Working in a team towards patient care is such a rewarding experience for me. I enjoy knowing that I have managed to make a difference towards patient care and helping them by making the best clinical decision by either treating them at home, admitting them to hospital or looking after palliative patients and their family, at their most vulnerable point. I also have experience managing chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma and COPD. I regularly have students on placement with me which is something I find very rewarding. Teaching students is so rewarding, being able to help students with their learning and watching them understand something that they've been struggling with is so satisfyingolllllllllp.wedfcv to me. Being a mentor to someone gives me such a sense of teamwork and personal satisfaction that I can be someone that can be relied on. I have had experience in emergency medicine. I did my placement course for my ECP training with EMAS and then once I was qualified, I worked in Leicester A&E and then Leicester Out Of Hours. I find that working in a fast-paced environment helps me thrive. I enjoy not knowing what a patient is going to present with and not knowing what is going to occur during each shift. I did my Independent Prescriber course which allowed me to provide further care. From A&E, I have then spent many years in GP surgeries where I saw patients both in the surgery and on home visits. I found that being able to prescribe really helped to further my career. Working in so many different health settings has allowed me to come into contact with different systems such as Adastra, System One and EMIS. I am comfortable using different IT systems and feel confident using the computer. Due to my current job, I am comfortable advising both paramedics and technicians both over the phone and going out to contact them on scene to offer further support for the patients. I currently work in Derby and feel that I have a good relationship with crews on the road. I also have a daughter who is a technician in Derby so I feel comfortable advising emergency service practitioners and feel like I have gotten to know many crews. I also advise specialist practitioners who need to prescriber outside of their PGD's. Outside of work, I have my family and my dogs that allow me to destress from work. I regularly walk my dogs with my husband. My family are very supportive of the hours that I work and regularly help me when I've finished my night shifts
