Ana Eales

Edinburgh

Summary

I spent much of my early career in the IT sector. This was a very rewarding role in a fast paced, high pressured environment. Although I have now moved away from this industry, I believe that many of the skills I acquired during this time are valuable and transferable to other sectors. As an IT consultant I was seconded to numerous clients during critical stages of a project. Not only would I have to familiarise myself with the current project, but also with the team in a very short amount of time. This draws not only on your practical skills, but also your interpersonal skills and adaptability.

In 2019 I was invited to take up a new role of Client Liaison Consultant. This role was more customer focused and enabled me to focus on what had always been a core strength - interpersonal skills.

When my children reached adulthood, this enabled me to begin to make desired changes in my life, which started with the COSCA Counselling Skills Course and onto my current position as Carers Support Worker at Change Mental Health.

At Change Mental Health I work as part of a small, close knit team based at the Stafford Centre in Edinburgh. Each member of the team works with a different focus but our roles often require collaboration. The Stafford Centre offers non clinical, person centred support. To succeed in this environment requires a person centred approach focusing on building rapport, showing understanding and empathy, and having excellent communication skills. Every client I have worked with has unique needs which have required adaptability to meet. Given the nature of some of the concerns my clients have presented, it is essential that I am able to maintain a calming presence regardless of the sensitivity of the topic. This is a core skill for me and I find working this way to be a natural fit. I consider myself to be a warm, friendly and confident person who understands the importance of building strong relationships to ensure client retention
