Alexandra Johnson

Summary

I am a recent graduate of Loughborough University with a BA in History and Politics of which I achieved a 2:2. I have had a strong interest in History and Politics throughout the entirety of my education and this has been shown through my A-Level Results.

Being a student athlete at university meant it was crucial I balanced my time effectively especially from the nature of super league and international commitments. This allowed for the development of strong leadership qualities, effective ways to work as a team, and ways to manage time due to having a busy schedule.

Interests

Sport has always been a large passion of mine. I started playing netball when I was 11 and have progressed through county, Regional Academy, Manchester Thunder Pathway, and Loughborough Lightning Pathway. I captained the Loughborough Lightning U21 squad in 2022 which significantly helped me to develop my leadership skills as it required partaking in uncomfortable conversations and we also won the U21 NPL Tournament. Furthermore, I was part of the Loughborough Lightning Superleague squad as a Training Partner that won the Netball Superleague in the 2023 and the 2024 season before moving to Cardiff Dragons for my first professional contract. I have also represented the Welsh Feathers throughout the 2023 and 2024 international season and most recently have been selected into the long squad for 2025. I also play for Oldham in the National Premier 1 League. All of these commitments have allowed me to develop my time management, teamwork, and organisational skills which enabled me to balance this with my university degree.

Volunteering

- I volunteered as a coach for the university BUCS 6s coach in my first year in 2021-2 and then volunteered as the BUCS 5s coach in my second year 2022-2023

- I volunteered as the Loughborough Students Netball Club Media Sec during both my second and third year and started a TikTok page that now has 4771 followers (2024) , our highest video had 2.9 million views on Tik Tok. Alongside this I also assisted in running the Loughborough Lightning Tik Tok page for the 2024 season, this largely involved creating light hearted and fun videos to increase engagement with fans.

- Netball Players Association (NPA) Player Vice Chair (January 2025 - Present Day.) Since being in this role I have been regularly involved in board meetings. This gave the ability to be the voice of the players especially going into NSL 2.0 but also speak to those involved in the NXT GEN league . Furthermore, it gave me the opportunity to assist in interviewing for the role of Player Development Managers. My role within the NPA has taught me a lot within the 8 months I have been involved so far especially around communication with fellow players and board members with the majority being a number of years older.
