Accomplishments

    I have many accomplishments and rewards which have been integral in preparing me for the world of work, from past work experiences, volunteering, extracurricular, and work shadowing. One of the most prominent being my successful application to becoming the science prefect within my school which has given me a profound understanding of leadership, and collaborating with the other members of the student leadership team (other department prefects, school captains and house leaders) has allowed me to deepen my communication, co-operation, and teamwork skills.

Career goals

I aspire to pursue a career in medicine and medical sciences, focusing on patient care and clinical practice. I aim to continuously expand my medical knowledge, contribute to healthcare.

Hobbies and interests

I enjoy hiking, cycling, and reading, particularly science and medical books. Volunteering with Monifieth Befrienders allows me to give back to the community. I’m also passionate about learning new skills and exploring diverse interests.

Projects

My lifelong ambitions have always been to pursue a career in medicine which all of the experiences listed below have helped me move towards.

  • Volunteer Experience – Monifieth Befrienders: Assisted elderly individuals, improving communication and empathy skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the healthcare needs of vulnerable populations.
  • First Aid Training: Recently completed a certified First Aid course, gaining hands-on experience in managing medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest, asthma attacks, and anaphylaxis.
  • Research Project on Mental Health in Youths: Conducted a research project focusing on the impact of mental health as part of the Pupil Council at my school, this research project resulted in a sponsored walk which myself and my peers collaborated in planning, which raised almost £430.00 for Penumbra, a local charity which deals with mental health within the community.
  • Sutton Trust Summer School – St. Andrews (2024): Gained exposure to the field of medicine through academic sessions, workshops, and discussions with healthcare professionals, strengthening my commitment to pursuing a career in medicine.
  • Work shadowing: Shadowed physiotherapists, in order to give me valuable insight into the reality of healthcare and the importance of the multidisciplinary team.
