During this role, I had the responsibilities of overseeing breakfast and after-school clubs, leading whole classes during half-term and summer holiday clubs and completing administrative duties to ensure the school day ran smoothly inside the classroom. I ran targeted intervention support sessions and after-school support workshops to ensure all children achieved the learning objective in every lesson.
When necessary, I supported other classrooms and strengthened the skill of working well under pressure and remaining calm in high intensity situations.
In this part-time role which I carried out alongside my undergraduate studies, I experienced a wide range of classroom environments- working with children with both severe SEND needs and behavioural issues ranging from ages 2-19. I assisted children with emotional regulations, personal care and academic activities. It was in this role I learnt the valuable skills of initiative, organisation and resilience.
In this role, I assisted children from ages 4-10 with their tap dancing technique and self-confidence. I took control of small-group work in which we combated specific issues in a small, supportive environment. I learnt the importance of providing an understanding and reassuring space in which children can thrive.
