  • Worked across three of their main centres: Bicester, Witney and Botley, as well as leading remote sessions for students across Oxfordshire.

As a teaching assistant I developed and learned:

  • Effective communication skills: For example, through working with a wide range of students, who were all different ages and within various stages of their education, required my to adapt the way I explained key concepts and methods to each individual student to ensure that each student was able to comprehend the challenges that they, at the time, were faced with, as well as preparing them for future challenges that they may be faced with. Also having to communicate effectively with staff regarding the progress of students and Working alongside managers and other teachers to deliver the best possible experience for students across the centres.
  • Leadership abilities: My role required me to lead online sessions with small groups as well as in-person groups for enhancing focus on challenging topics.
  • Organisation: I was responsible for managing classroom materials and homework for students across the three centres which was approximately for 50 in-person- classes , and recorded the progress of student from their classwork and homework.
  • Problem-solving and adaptability: During certain sessions, I was faced with unexpected challenges such as helping a student who needed further support on a more challenging question or managing classroom behaviour. This required me to think expeditiously as I was responsible for helping multiple students at one time, and adapt my approach depending on the situation or the student.

  • History: I recognise that history plays a prodigious role in today’s world and economy because it provides valuable lessons from the past that we are then able to learn from . For example, history allows us to analyse: information available at the time, the assumptions made, decisions taken, and the impact of the decisions made. This reflection allows for a deeper evaluation of decision making effectiveness and helps to identify areas where alternative decisions could’ve been made to lead to a different outcome
  • Current Affairs: Current affairs allows us to study similar situations in the past (looking back in history), we can make informed decisions based on this information to shape improved outcomes. We can put meteorics in place to measure if what we’ve decided is working/ effective or not. If not, we can tweak or change something, and reevaluate so that we’re able to be better off than individuals before us. I believe staying informed about current events enables people to understand and engage with what’s happening in the economy and across the globe. Current affairs offer insight into the broader impact on individuals’ daily lives—whether that’s economically, mentally, or emotionally. Exposure to current events also sharpens critical thinking skills by encouraging people to question why events unfold as they do, recognize biases and propaganda, and evaluate evidence. This understanding empowers citizens, businesses, and governments to make informed decisions that enhance their overall welfare.
