Teaching assistant
- Worked across three of their main centres: Bicester, Witney and Botley, as well as leading remote sessions for students across Oxfordshire.
As a teaching assistant I developed and learned:
- Effective communication skills: For example, through working with a wide range of students, who were all different ages and within various stages of their education, required my to adapt the way I explained key concepts and methods to each individual student to ensure that each student was able to comprehend the challenges that they, at the time, were faced with, as well as preparing them for future challenges that they may be faced with. Also having to communicate effectively with staff regarding the progress of students and Working alongside managers and other teachers to deliver the best possible experience for students across the centres.
- Leadership abilities: My role required me to lead online sessions with small groups as well as in-person groups for enhancing focus on challenging topics.
- Organisation: I was responsible for managing classroom materials and homework for students across the three centres which was approximately for 50 in-person- classes , and recorded the progress of student from their classwork and homework.
- Problem-solving and adaptability: During certain sessions, I was faced with unexpected challenges such as helping a student who needed further support on a more challenging question or managing classroom behaviour. This required me to think expeditiously as I was responsible for helping multiple students at one time, and adapt my approach depending on the situation or the student.
