Accomplishments

  • In 2017, I completed Duke of Edinburgh Expedition which was held in the peak district and lasted 3 days and 2 nights. It was a tough challenge which I accomplished with great determination. I gained skills like working in a team to achieve the best results and also learnt survival skills. I worked with six other people to complete my DofE expedition; this involved us talking through potential problems before they became issues, listening to all opinions and advice my teammates gave and taking leadership when necessary. I was responsible for map navigation which played an important part in us all completing the section as I was responsible for making sure my team weren't going the wrong way while ensuring our hiking pace was maintained as we had a time limit.

Accomplishments

  • Throughout autumn this year I enrolled on NCS (National Citizenship Service), a nationally-accredited volunteer programme, to gain skills while contributing to my local community. This involved a residential stay in the Lake District and the planning and organisation of social action projects, in order to raise awareness about the vulnerable elderly in care homes, namely the residents of Wellington Lodge. For the social action project, I decided to take on the role of finance manager for my team which meant I was assigned the task of handling the budget of the project. I volunteered to organise how the day would run by arranging a detailed timetable. Whilst taking on these roles I developed communication, leadership and time management skills.
