Project Ecperience

Project: Biomaterials Characterization of Shark Skin Surface

Objective: Investigated the microstructural and mechanical properties of shark skin-inspired surfaces to inform the design of drag-reducing and antifouling materials.

Methods:

Electron & Probe Microscopy: SEM to image denticle morphology; TEM to resolve          nanoscale structures within denticle layers.

Surface Topography & Mechanics: AFM for 3D surface mapping and measurement of local stiffness; nanoindentation for hardness and elastic modulus profiling.

Wettability Testing: Contact-angle goniometry and captive-bubble assays to quantify hydrophobic/hydrophilic behavior on peaks and troughs.

Spectroscopic Analysis: XPS and FTIR to characterize surface chemistry and functional groups influencing wettability.

CFD Simulations: Correlated topography and wettability parameters with drag coefficients and fluid adhesion in turbulent flow models.

Skills Applied: TEM/SEM imaging, AFM surface analysis, nanoindentation, contact-angle measurement, XPS/FTIR spectroscopy, CFD modeling, Python/MATLAB data analysis, cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Project: Nanomaterials Development for High-Performance Capacitors

Objective: Engineered and characterized novel nanostructured electrode materials to enhance energy density, charge–discharge rates, and long-term cycling stability of electrochemical capacitors.

Methods:
Synthesis:
Developed metal-oxide and carbon-based nanocomposites via sol–gel and hydrothermal methods, controlling particle size and porosity.
Structural Characterization: Employed TEM and SEM to assess nanoparticle morphology, XRD for phase identification, and BET analysis for specific surface area and pore distribution.
Electrochemical Testing: Performed cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge–discharge, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to evaluate capacitance, rate capability, and internal resistance.
Thermal & Chemical Stability: Conducted thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and FTIR to verify material robustness under operating conditions.

Skills Applied: Nanomaterial synthesis, TEM/SEM imaging, XRD/BET analysis, electrochemical techniques (CV, EIS), data processing in Python/MATLAB, collaborative problem solving.

Lab Project: Polymer processing for Advanced Functional Materials

Objective: Create a more sustainable plastic film based on gelatine and fruit puree by increasing transparency and UV light resistance, as far as possible, while retaining the other properties of the films.

Methods:

Film thickness: Measure using micrometre at several locations.

Film transparency: ASTM D1746 % transmission (UV-Vis) between 200- 800nm. Cuvettes provided for both UV-Visible range.

Mechanical properties: (ASTM D 882-10, initial grip separation 50 mm, cross head speed 5- 10 mm/min)

Water Contact Angle:Static contact angles measurements were taken at different locations on each sample, and the average value was reported.

Morphological Analysis:
Surface and cross-sectional morphology were examined by:
Light Optical Microscopy (LOM): to assess macro-scale uniformity and defect presence.
Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM): operated at 5–15 kV, with film samples sputter-coated with a 5 nm gold layer to prevent charging. High-resolution images were acquired to characterize surface topography and cross-sectional layer structure.

Event Planning & Hosting Experience

China–Australia Music Festival (Australia):
• Assisted in on-site event operations, maintaining crowd flow and venue safety for 500+ attendees.
• Provided real-time bilingual (Chinese–English) translation for performers, staff, and media, ensuring seamless communication across all festival activities.
• Co-hosted select segments on the main stage—introducing acts, moderating artist Q&A, and engaging the audience with clear, energetic presentation.

British Artist Solo Concert (London, UK):
• Spearheaded venue scouting and secured an 100-seat historic theatre, negotiating favorable rental terms and technical support through detailed email correspondence with venue management.
• Directed stage layout and collaborating with lighting and sound teams to create an immersive concert atmosphere.
• Developed a comprehensive event timeline—coordinating load-in, soundcheck, performance slots, and post-show teardown—to ensure flawless execution.
• Served as master of ceremonies, introducing the artist in both English and Chinese(Mandarin), guiding stage transitions, and engaging the audience with clear, professional hosting.
