Hello! My name is Yaou. I graduated BA in Textile Design from Central Saint Martins and an MA Fashion from the Royal College of Art. My early practice focused on knitwear design, but as my research and creative vision deepened, I gradually shifted toward a broader exploration of textiles, materiality, and philosophical narratives that give fashion a more profound meaning.
My creative journey began with drawing fairy-tale imagery and investigating the subconscious. Through experimental textile techniques and material innovation, I create work that reflects compassion for society and resonates with my interests in philosophy and literature. My womenswear practice is a way for me to explore freedom of the soul, and the meaning of human being existing in the world.
My ambition is to develop a distinct design language rooted in signature silhouettes, innovative material processes, and expressive painting and colour. Guided by the belief that “ human proves the meaning of existence through continuous decision making,” I aim to create womenswear that empowers individuals to express their unique identities with confidence and autonomy. I hope my work can serve as a daily reminder that one can become the author of their own life.
After my year of study at the Royal College of Art, I have built a strong philosophical foundation to underpin my design approach. I am eager to bring these ideas into real-world creation, contributing my passion, knowledge, and imagination to the evolution of contemporary womenswear. Ultimately, I hope to inspire others to explore their own beliefs and freedoms through fashion.
