Working as a full time volunteer at the UEFA European Football Championships provided invaluable experience in understanding and operating within the fast paced, multinational professional sporting sector. Regularly servicing Köln & Düsseldorf's accreditation centres honed an ability to deliver excellent administrative support and customer service; as well as the maintenance of confidentiality and management of sensitive information in the football world. Skills gained here include:

  • Football Specific Administration: Providing high quality service to players, fans, officials and other stakeholders, before, during and after events. actively working daily on match days and non match days at the help desk, welcome desk, printing desk and production areas.

  • Confidential Document Management: Successfully handled sensitive player and staff accreditation information, ensuring privacy and compliance with data protection standards throughout the tournament. Experience in managing confidential information and maintaining organizational systems.

  • Guest Relations: Guided attendees, staff and professionals to their designated areas, offering information about facility amenities and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors.

  • Stakeholder Communications: Fostered strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including community partners and event participants, facilitating clear and effective communication.

  • Professional Customer Service: Addressed inquiries and resolved complaints with professionalism, contributing to a high standard of service in the professional football environment.

  • Task Delegation and Adaptability: As part of the accreditation team you are often required to perform both individually and as part of a team. As such, I gained capacity in effectively delegating responsibilities and adapting to changing circumstances, ensuring the best possible execution of accreditation processes and related initiatives.

  • Compliance Monitoring: Adherence to accreditation standards, managing document submissions and liaising with relevant accrediting bodies to ensure operational excellence. Also participating in feedback and reviews to progress enhancement of departmental procedures and policies to align with evolving regulations and improve overall efficiency across functions.

This role was integral to the planning and regulation of access across eight stadiums and the International Broadcast Centre; ensuring that all parties, including referees, players, officials, media, and service providers, received their personalized identity cards and support. Experiencing this high-pressure environment has equipped me with the skills necessary to provide robust, efficient, and professional administrative support, while maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality and service excellence in the football industry.
