Planning, Infrastructure and Public Law

Supporting partners and associates working across all phases of Development Consent Orders and Transport and Works Act Orders including: Luton Airport Expansion, East West Rail, and the Bridgwater Tidal Barrier scheme. Further support on public law regulatory and legislative matters.

Highlights:

• Project tracking and peer review of public consultation documents for the East West Rail project.

• Undertaking complex research and drafting of advice notes for a range of clients including: Natural Resources Wales, The Environment Agency, The National Audit Office and Google.

• Drafting of key planning documents including s.106 agreements and statement of reasons for the Catford A205 realignment Compulsory Purchase Order.

• Assisting the team with the promotion in parliament of the Bishop's Stortford Cemetery Bill.
  
• Contributing background research and editorial input to the development of a conceptual framework for the legal liability implications of generative AI.

Commercial Real Estate (with emphasis on Major Projects)

1) Real estate advisory work and project management on the implementation stages of major infrastructure projects including: National Grid (Hinkley Point C Connection Project Order) 2016; Northumberland Line Order 2022; Lower Thames Crossing.

2) Assisting with landlord and tenant commercial leasehold and freehold transactions; the securing of land options for solar and renewable energy; and management of applications to the land registry.

Highlights:

• Drafting statutory notices, general vesting declarations and procedural documents related to the compulsory acquisition of land.

• Undertaking research and drafting advisory notes on the extent of promoter powers under various Development Consent Orders.

• Taking to completion multiple deeds of grant in respect of easements (Hinkley) and dealing with post-completion matters.

• Review and drafting of documents to facilitate land transfers for the Northumberland Line project.

• Drafting search report and reports on title for land under option for solar farm development (IB Vogt/Orron) and renewable energy projects (Alfanar).

Secondment to Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI)

Contributing to TBI's in-house legal function including: contract review, risk and compliance checks ('KYC'), commercial due diligence and project support.

Highlights:

• Working across departments to provide legal guidance on TBI's US internship programme.

• Co-ordination of the due diligence phase for the sale of TBI's Generation Global Programme to the International Baccalaureate.

• Registration of new TBI corporate entities in Guatemala, the Dominican Republic and Brazil.
