For my job role as a Team Member, I am required to essentially work in any part of the shop. I serve customers from the till, manage the ovens, stock shelves, complete delivery orders and make sure the shop looks clean and tidy and presentable, to ensure everything is up to standards. As a team member, I provide excellent customer service and I am always willing to work even if under pressure when it is busy. Over the time that I have worked with Greggs, I have performed very well and my confidence with working in all parts of the shop has improved. Additionally as part of my role, I have experience in working in different shops as my flexibility allows me to be able to help shops that are short staffed. This enables me to work with a wide range of new people and build my confidence as I socialise with workers I’ve never worked with before. It also improves my skills of being able to adapt to new environments quickly.

Skills

Over my course of employment, these are some skills that I have taken on:

  • Communication skills- I am a very clear speaker, I enjoy talking to everyone and I am always polite when talking to customers, making sure that they have a positive experience and return
  • Cash handling- At work, I have been till trained and I am trusted to work around money at all times, making sure that I give the right change and charge customers the correct amount
  • Customer service- Though issues may occur at work, my customer service skills are constantly improving and even if there is a problem at hand, I am always polite and solve the situation in the most efficient way possible
  • Organisational skills- I like to plan everything out and I like to stay organised so that I know exactly when my shifts are so that I show up on time
  • Social work- I enjoy working around other people and enjoy communicating with colleagues whilst at work, helping them if anything is needed I also enjoy working with new colleagues and meeting new people when I need to cover a shift at another branch
  • Problem-solving: If an incident occurs at work, I am excellent at sorting it out, especially if a customer needs help with something
  • Confidence- I have gained a lot more confidence at work especially when taking criticism and in the way that I work This means that if I get complaints, I solve them with efficiency and ensure that the customer is always satisfied rather than taking the complaint negatively

Work Experience

During my time at college, I was required to complete at least one week of work experience in an industry of my choice. As I was studying A-Level Business Studies, I spent a week at the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce. I was given a tour of the chambers and introduced to each role in the business. I spent the week participating in business sessions and helping to make PowerPoints for the sessions in which business owners would listen to advice on how to improve their start-ups. This enabled me to understand how to correctly run a small business and gave me the confidence to interact with strangers I had never met before. As part of this work experience, I also helped to set up the Staffordshire Business Awards 2024 which was a one-time opportunity.

Additional Information

I have represented my school on many occasions throughout my years of education. Throughout this I have learned more about communicating with others and working in teams which is particularly important for a company.

  • Oxford University- In school I was part of the Higher Achievers programme meaning that I was offered the opportunity to visit Oxford University as part of a trip with other students who were also high achievers. We stayed over night and learned a lot about university life. I really enjoyed this opportunity and look forward to higher education.
  • Charity work- In school I was part of a worship group called GASP where we would volunteer a lot throughout the year. We would often go to charities and help out during Christmas or Harvest. We once went to help out at a children’s charity for Christmas where we donated many toys and treats to those children in need.
