I am an 18 year old student starting university in Manchester in September, who is looking for more experience in work. I currently work part-time at Greggs however, I would like to improve my skills and work in more fields and/or experience more roles within the workplace to widen my knowledge and build my confidence. I am a very dedicated and motivated student and employee who is sociable and great at communicating with individuals. I also work well under pressure and bring a positive atmosphere wherever I go.
For my job role as a Team Member, I am required to essentially work in any part of the shop. I serve customers from the till, manage the ovens, stock shelves, complete delivery orders and make sure the shop looks clean and tidy and presentable, to ensure everything is up to standards. As a team member, I provide excellent customer service and I am always willing to work even if under pressure when it is busy. Over the time that I have worked with Greggs, I have performed very well and my confidence with working in all parts of the shop has improved. Additionally as part of my role, I have experience in working in different shops as my flexibility allows me to be able to help shops that are short staffed. This enables me to work with a wide range of new people and build my confidence as I socialise with workers I’ve never worked with before. It also improves my skills of being able to adapt to new environments quickly.
Over my course of employment, these are some skills that I have taken on:
During my time at college, I was required to complete at least one week of work experience in an industry of my choice. As I was studying A-Level Business Studies, I spent a week at the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce. I was given a tour of the chambers and introduced to each role in the business. I spent the week participating in business sessions and helping to make PowerPoints for the sessions in which business owners would listen to advice on how to improve their start-ups. This enabled me to understand how to correctly run a small business and gave me the confidence to interact with strangers I had never met before. As part of this work experience, I also helped to set up the Staffordshire Business Awards 2024 which was a one-time opportunity.
I have represented my school on many occasions throughout my years of education. Throughout this I have learned more about communicating with others and working in teams which is particularly important for a company.
