I am a self motivated person, moving to the north of England 16 years ago to work in a completely new field/industry to take up the position of train conductor. After 18 months in the above role I passed the driver psychometric tests to be a train driver based at Liverpool lime street station. I worked at Liverpool Lime Street until May 2022 at which point I decided to retire. I thoroughly enjoyed the position I held and the work there but I have come to realise I still have a lot to offer the right employer.
I decided to leave my position within Blackpool Transport after a short period due to safety concerns as I previously held a position as a train driver in a safety critical environment. Having this previous experience I was not happy to remain employed by Blackpool transport in that role.
I am currently employed by Fox’s Burtons Biscuits as a process operative. My experience so far has not been a good one. Total lack of training and accountability, which is not acceptable when using heavy machinery and a toxic work environment have led me to seek alternative employment.
I felt the need to clarify the last two positions I have held including my current one as I do not usually shift around career wise often but due to circumstances beyond my control I have felt the need to leave.
Train Conductor based at Manchester Victoria Station.
Starting my new job as a train Conductor was a complete departure for me from my previous roles. I was very proud to start a new career in a completely new role. I loved every moment and it really pushed me and made me realise I wanted to progress within the company to be a train driver. Positions were limited at Manchester Victoria so when I was offered a role at Liverpool Lime Street after passing my psychometric testing and subsequent interviews I jumped at the chance.
Train Driver Based at Liverpool Lime Street Station.
My role as a Train Driver is something i am very proud of. I made the choice to dedicate myself to the company and this career path and every day i have given my best effort to achieve the high standards of professionalism required for the role as outlined below.
I thouroghly enjoyed my job on a daily basis as no two shifts are the same, and while the majority of my working day i am on my own, i really enjoy the time i get to interact with other drivers and members of staff. I have displayed the importance of team work, verbal and observational skills, knowledge retention, skills obtained from my first three years in employment as a train conductor and then 12 years as a train driver.
I worked at Liverpool Lime Street from November 2010 until May 2022 at which point I decided to retire early. I decided to have some me time, I had my gap year at 55! I thoroughly enjoyed both the position's I held at Northern Rail and the work there, and after my gap year I would like to work within the railway again if I am lucky enough to be successful with my application.
Food Production/Quality Control
I joined Pasta Foods in May 2001 and i worked hard to improve myself and further my career. I enjoyed my various roles within Pasta Foods. Initially i was on the factory floor, packing the product and getting it ready for shipment to the buyers. Wanting to further myself within the company i progressed to the position of Quality Control. A highly responsible role ensuring that all the product we produced met our specifications and that of the customers. I was responsible for:
Food Production/Training Instructor
I joined Bernard Matthews as a trainee poultry butcher. After completing the initial training period i progressed to fully skilled butcher. Wanting to further myself i progressed to the position of training instructor. My role involved working with new employees with no butchery experience. I had to train them in the proper techniques and required standards of Bernard Matthews and the different specifications of butchery required from our buyers. Working at speed with very sharp equipment they had to be trained in safety awareness and their responsibility for the safety of their fellow workers who they were working alongside.
Upon leaving school at 16 i attended Great Yarmouth College of Further Education. I enrolled in a bricklaying course and R.G. Carter builders took me on as an apprentice. Over the next three years i attended college, alongside working on site, passing all my exams and achieved Master Craftsman qualification in Bricklaying. Deciding i wanted to work on larger scale builds i went to work for Willmott Dixon in 1987. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working for Willmott Dixon and worked on many great builds in and around Norfolk. Unfortunately due to carpel tunnel i had to leave the construction industry in 1992 or risk irreversibly injury to my wrists and forearms. After nearly 12 months of rest and rehabilitation my arms were sufficiently rehabilitated so i could return to the workplace and I have never had any recurrence of the previous problems in the 32 years since.
