Summary

I've read and know what it takes to achieve my dream major in my dream university. However, most universities require an A level chemistry to enter the vet course. Despite knowing that, I feel that when I give all I've got in my subjects and get the As I need, I would get a conditional offer and I will treasure that opportunity and make the best use of it like I have always done for every other opportunity I was given. My best asset is my work ethic. Teachers have been giving me many good words for my work ethic and my hardworking attitude towards learning and acceptance towards feedback .

Work History

09.2023
  • Contributed to an open house school event for the potential new year 7s, helping out in the chemistry facility by welcoming parents and explaining and teaching their children how to practice experiments and get accurate results, for example, getting the correct colour matching neutralisation.

04.2022
  • Sang in one school event.

06.2023 - 08.2023
  • Worked, to teach children gymnastics, preparing some of them for their competition the following year.

10.2023 - 01.2023
  • Went to Kings college to gain experience and exposure of hands-on experiments focusing on mainly science related topics like medicine, dentistry and health care
  • Learned a lot about the requirements needed to be accepted to a science university course.

Accomplishments

  • I have studied articles for my Super- Curricular Projects to extend my knowledge that is required to study veterinary medicine
  • Here are some examples: https://www.livescience.com/animals/cats/why-do-cats-throw-up-so-much https://www.livescience.com/animals/land-mammals/some-female-meerkats-have-a-brutal-bloodthirsty-streak-and-now-we-may-know-why https://www.livescience.com/why-dogs-noses-are-cold-wet.html https://www.livescience.com/animals/dogs/why-do-dogs-eat-poop
  • Having the golden opportunity to attend Kings College, be in an operating room and having a taste on the job scope like dentistry and extracting blood has opened my eyes and knowledge deeper into the subject and has deepened my interest and has increased my confidence that this job scope is the one I want to pursue
  • Even though all of the practicals in Kings college did not involve veterinary medicine, it certainly did show similar courses that is interrelated to veterinary medicine as extracting blood would also apply to what is required in veterinary medicine
  • As for Dentistry, it is also interrelated to veterinary medicine as well as this is the skills required for veterinary dentistry and the animals' oral health
  • Podcasts I have listened to: https://www.rvc.ac.uk/veterinary-services/podcasts/140-oral-hypoglycaemic-drugs-for-diabetic-cat https://www.rvc.ac.uk/veterinary-services/podcasts/139-lower-urinary-tract-surgery https://www.rvc.ac.uk/veterinary-services/podcasts/138-feline-urethral-obstruction https://www.rvc.ac.uk/veterinary-services/podcasts/133-chronic-kideny-disease-and-hypertension-in-cats

  • One podcast that I have reflected upon is that why it is important to regulate kidneys and blood pressure as to prevent kidney disease. I have learnt that by measuring blood pressure, there is situational hypertension, usually at 120 kg of mercury. To keep it at a normal level, the kidney must work quite hard because animals are constantly ingesting different amounts of liquid and different amounts of sodium, and so their kidneys must constantly adjust the amounts of fluid and sodium in our bodies to maintain their blood pressure within that level. Since water follows sodium, it's all about sodium in the kidney; the way the kidney regulates blood pressure is via sodium and how much sodium its excreting. So, if the kidney senses that there's a high volume of sodium in the tubular filtrate, then that's going to cause the kidney to start excreting more sodium and therefore, blood pressure is going to go down because the high volume is going to drop. If the kidney senses there is a decrease in sodium in the extracellular fluid, then sodium must be conserved, and that conserved sodium is going to increase the amount of extracellular fluid in the body and hence is going to increase blood pressure. Cats have kidney disease because there is increase in activation of the venular. In chronic kidney disease, the amount of functioning nephrons goes down, so each nephron must work harder to clear the urenic toxins. The single nephron GFR must increase so the venular antigens in systems activated increases pressure. The issue with that is that it also increases blood pressure as well.

Interests

Dance, singing, art, science, animal welfare

researching, gymnastics, dance

I love researching as it feeds my knowledge further on mysteries that could only be explained by science itself and this helps to extend my knowledge on the specific science department I want to pursue. I taught gymnastics and trained some of the students to compete locally. I did ballet till grade 6, danced in a ballet performance, did chinese dance and achieved a distinction for being in a dance competition.
