I am a paediatric trained staff nurse with 20+ years qualified experience.
I am a Driven, hardworking Nurse bringing demonstrated patient care, medication monitoring and treatment management expertise. I am adaptable and resilient with strong attention to detail, clinical expertise and emergency response experience.
My career began in Hull and East Yorkshire Women and Children’s hospital in 2003 (Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Tertiary Unit)), In 2012 I relocated to Durham for 5 years, I Worked on the Paediatric Ward for approximately a year, during which time I Whilst working within Durham and Darlington trust I successfully studied for post registration qualifications and speciality training, (405). Before returning to Hull in 2017, where I resumed working on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). In December 2019 I became a Band 6 Staff Nurse, on the Neonatal Unit at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, to enhance my knowledge base and enhance my leaderships skills.
I have the good decision-making skills required to ensure that the unit runs effectively, and that guidelines are followed, I have undertaken bed management training, allocated staff at the beginning of a shift based on the individuals skill set and experience, whilst also being aware of any potential staffing issues/pending admissions etc. My communication skills are of a very high standard both verbal and written. I keep contemporaneous records in accordance with NMC guidelines. I liaise with multi-disciplinary teams both within the organisation and externally, and I feel I achieve this in an exemplary fashion. I maintain confidentiality in relation to patient care, staff and other health service business.
I have the knowledge and skills to deal with a multitude of conditions that may necessitate a baby needing admission to the neonatal unit. I can prioritise my workload effectively and safely and can delegate appropriately. I am Trained in all intensive care needs including, all types of ventilation, High Frequency Oscillation, Nitric, CFAM monitoring and therapeutic hypothermia. I am experienced in attending the delivery suite to assist with neonatal emergencies, and undertook a stabilisation course whilst working in Durham, and I have a current NLS qualification which equips me with the knowledge and skill to carry our neonatal life support.
I am committed to continuing professional development and have attended courses relevant to my role. I have completed audits, and am aware of the National Neonatal Audit Programme 2019. I ensure any mandatory training is up to date and use online resources such as the RCN and health care websites to actively keep informed of nursing initiatives. I have completed level 3 Safeguarding training and have a keen interest in these issues. I have been an active member of the bereavement team and have attended numerous conferences around the country to further my knowledge and skills needed to give empathetic care to families.
I am a compassionate empathetic practitioner who prides herself on being able to form excellent relationships with families. I am a naturally cheerful, capable and adaptable person with good teamwork and interpersonal skills developed throughout my career. I completed the Mentorship Module at Hull University in 2018 and have Supported student nurses through their placement competencies. I have received positive comments from students about my teaching which has helped them to grow in confidence. One student wrote: ‘thank you for all your support. I feel I have learnt so much from you and have learnt how to improve my management skills’.
I feel I have the necessary skills and attributes that this role requires. I am a caring, committed and motivated individual who has also a good understanding of equality and diversity. I am able to solve and respond to stressful and hectic situations confidently and calmly.
Among my strengths is my dedication and ability in delivering excellent standards of care. I am well organised and motivated, capable of working under pressure whilst realising my own limitations
