Todd Baer is an award winning journalist and former news executive who leads the global communications & media relations team at Qatar Airways Group. He is based at the company’s worldwide headquarters in Doha, Qatar.
He joined Qatar Airways Group after 12 years at Bloomberg News and Bloomberg Media in editorial, business development, sales and strategy roles.
As Global Director of Government Partnerships Baer closed an 8-figure, multi-year business deal with the Government of Qatar, and created the Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg. Additionally he formed multi-million dollar advertising partnerships with the governments of the U.K., United States, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Rwanda, Mongolia, Namibia, Egypt and India.
Before this he was the Executive Producer Americas for Bloomberg Television, and was based in Mexico City. As EP Americas he launched and managed Bloomberg's Spanish language affiliate El Financiero|Bloomberg TV and Elfinanciero.com.mx. He also helped create Bloomberg TV Canada. Prior to this, Baer was an Ulaanbaatar based Executive Producer who launched Bloomberg TV Mongolia and helped create Bloomberg TV Indonesia.
Previously he served as a correspondent for Al Jazeera English in Gaza, Afghanistan, Lebanon, India, Haiti and The United States, and he reported from Pakistan for CNN and ABC News. Prior to working as an International correspondent, Baer was a local television reporter at KSTP-TV (ABC) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, WFSB-TV (CBS) in Hartford, Connecticut and NY1 News in New York City.
Baer was part of the team at KSTP-TV that won a prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for breaking the story of unguarded explosives at the Al QaQa weapons facility in Iraq days before the 2004 presidential election. He is also the recipient of 2 Emmy awards (regional and national) for live and team coverage while at KSTP.
In April 2013 the Government of Mongolia awarded him the Order of the Polar Star, the highest honor a foreigner can receive, for launching Bloomberg TV Mongolia. He has been a featured speaker at The World Economic Forum, the Eurasian Media Forum in Astana, Kazakhstan, and the University of Nebraska has recognized him for excellence in International journalism.
Baer served as a John S. and James L. Knight International Journalism fellow in Delhi, India in 2011. During his fellowship he built and operated a media school for underprivileged young people, with support from the Knight, Gates & Open Society Foundations.
He is a dual citizen of the United States and the United Kingdom.
