  • Employed as an Electrical Supervisor by Semco Maritime on Total’s North Alwyn Platform in the northern North Sea and authorized as Responsible Person Electrical (REP) by assessment through Totalenergies Electrical Technical Authority. Bringing power back online after ESD ‘0’ black start trips to generation, battery systems and auxiliary power.
  • 7th Week RPE (Responsible Person Electrical) cover on the asset as we currently work a 3 on 4 off Rota schedule with three RPE authorised Elec Techs on the North Alwyn.
  • Bi-weekly fuel changeover duty of the main HV generation, gradually changing from gas fuel to liquid fuel while monitoring behaviour of the remain HV generators on the network. Switching back the gas fuel afterwards.
  • Starting up and manually synchronising of HV generators and closing onto the network leaving machines in load sharing mode.
  • Unloading of HV generators manually from the HV network while monitoring the existing online Avons before opening ACB and allowing the turbine to finish the rolldown cycle and leaving available for use when required.
  • Assisting with Control Room Operators and Production Technicians with the start up of Main Line Siemens GT35 Gas Turbine compressors. Checking starting permissive issues, checking through drawings for start logic interrupts with starter motors, emergency lube oil motors, lube oil motors and ventilation issues.
  • Carrying out preventative maintenance on parallel redundant UPS and Battery Chargers (48V –220V Battery strings). Isolation of A or B Systems for vendor component replacement work scopes. Carrying out 5 hour battery discharge tests with passive and active type load bank units for DNV certification inspections by 3rd party. Faulting finding on 6.6/21kV oil filled transformer to ascertain issues with the purging of the TX.
  • LV Switchboard bus bar maintenance including primary and secondary injection testing of MCCs and feeders.
  • Maintenance of HV / LV oil filled transformers including oil sample flash testing and PI testing of windings, and then recording results in SAP Workorders.
  • Maintenance of HV / LV dry type transformers located in accommodation switch rooms. Isolation and earthing to allow dust removal from within transformer enclosures. Checks on ventilation systems for the dry transformers. Testing of high temperature trips and alarms and recording results in SAP.
  • Duties include raising Permit to Works using the eVision PTW system as a Performing Authority for preventative maintenance (PM) as indicated on the CMMS SAP system. Raising a Routine PTW to carry out any repairs to small power, lighting or trace heating as directed by the RPE.
  • Weekly test runs of the two diesel emergency generators on NAA & NAB. Manually synchronizing and allowing load sharing on to the two emergency switchboards. Re-instating emergency generators after the tests so that they are available and left in automatic.
  • Two weekly test runs of the 2 x 6.6kV 2.8MW MTU Secondary diesel generators. Load sharing by synchronising in Manual and Auto modes, increasing base load from 25% before unloading generators afterwards.
  • Performing LV and HV isolations and de-isolations as required, LOTO and updating points on eVision for PMs, breakdowns by mechanical or instrumentation trades throughout the shift.
  • Fault finding on Main Generation dual fuel turbine driven HV generators that had tripped throughout the night. Obtaining the relevant drawings for the systems and faulting on faulty DC MCCs under PTW. Bench testing repairs before MCC re-entering service.
  • Faulting finding on Crane packages throughout the platform, to determine that faults caused by pneumatic valves being mistakenly closed on the crane which had stopped the hydraulic pumps from operating due to interlocks in the control circuit. Obtaining electrical drawings for the same to allow systematic fault-finding approach.
  • Electrical PMs on 6.6kV production equipment as per SAP maintenance cycle. Carrying out PI tests on 6.6kV motors using the Megger 5kV test set and recording results. Isolations and de-isolations of the same.
  • Applying 6.6kV single point isolations and de-isolations, applying and removing CMEs throughout the shift.
  • Carrying out 5-hour DC battery discharge tests on 48V battery strings using a loadbank in a controlled manor. Recording voltages at set intervals and entering data at the end of the test into the Excel spreadsheet before uploading results to SAP.
  • Completing 2 weekly & 4 weekly PMs on passenger lifts, Heli-fuel earthing, emergency lighting, earthing & bonding, portable equipment, lifeboat systems and trace heating systems. Updating the relevant information on the SAP workorder for each task.
  • Carrying out secondary injection testing of MCCs using the calibrated injection test equipment and recording tripping times and currents. Replacing defective contactors and overloads as required. Raising notifications for defects within SAP. Using umbilical connections to check the correct operation of the 48V control circuitry for various MCCs. Replacing sticky contactors or indicator lamps as required.

A description of how to mitigate the defect was also provided to Kirby Engineering who are the site contractors. A final report and conclusion were provided after the inspection.

  • Maintaining 690V power requirements for drilling and completion operations by monitoring Easygen, providing additional engines as power demand requires throughout the shift.
  • Completing PMs on Dry, naturally vented Delta - Delta Transformers after raising Cold Work Permits and Energy Isolation Certificates.
  • Completing PMs on the NOV Pipe Racker Siemens VFD panel, Insulation resistance testing motor circuits and torquing connections as per OEM.
  • End of Well maintenance on Draw Works 600V, 1400 Amp Increased Safety Ex e motors - Insulation Resistance testing.
  • Fault finding on the Galley freezer / cold room Compressor Skid after alarms received on Monitoring Alarm Panel.
  • Cable pulling from LER to Doghouse open cable transits and re-packing transits afterwards.
  • Continuing with 2019 - 20% CLOSE inspections of the Ex rated equipment through-out the hazardous areas on-board the rig.

  • In this role I was employed as a Comp Ex Electrician based at the Nu-Star Refined Product Terminal located in Belfast Harbour. Working within a strictly enforced Permit to Work scheme each day as per company standards. Verifying isolations on equipment to be worked on and performing the necessary voltage zero volts readings on the plant before work can commence.
  • Working in a team of two during the work scope making sure that safety rules and installations are compliant with IEC 60079-14 regulations.
  • Main installation duties included - installing SWA multi-core cabling and cable tray, mounting Ex rated enclosures, installing Ex rated double seal or barrier glands as required. Glanding and terminating using drawings provided.
  • After installation carrying out continuity tests, insulation resistance tests and recording results on NuStar commissioning work packs.
  • Replacing resin cable joints feeding product motors with Atex Ex e rated junction boxes so that periodic detailed inspections can be competed without limitations. Testing new cabling installed and completing motor handover and detailed in service inspection check sheets for NuStar approval.
  • Updating drawings with any additional equipment or cabling that has been installed throughout remedial work scopes.
  • Maintenance duties included responding to reports of equipment failing such as motors etc. Carrying out the necessary repairs and placing equipment back into service.

  • As an electrical technician for the DOD my main duties included the daily planning of Preventive Maintenance inspection schedules and routes using MAXIMO software. All government owned assets and facilities were tested and inspected on either a weekly, monthly, semi-annual or an annual basis.
  • I supervised a small team of four electricians of various nationalities, and I conducted the daily Risk Assessments and Toolbox Talks before issuing the Permit to Work for relevant areas for that day.   • Any deficiencies found during the testing process were either immediately mitigated or left safe until the material required was on site.
  • Daily reports were completed and sent to the site manager at the end of each shift.
  • The team also provided assistance with the 3rd party contractor with the maintenance, testing and inspection of the onsite power generation systems and High Voltage step down transformers.
  • Other responsibilities included the maintenance of the onsite wastewater treatment; water production and fuel distribution facilities all of which contained ATEX rated equipment.
