This roles means I have to uphold a very high professional standard when performing roadside recoveries of commercial vehicles. My day to day tasks are performing daily vehicle checks to make sure my truck and the equipment on it are up to the correct standard so that I can perform my job without any setbacks, I also be attend vehicle breakdowns to safely and successfully recover customer vehicles and load back to yards and places of repair. This role also includes accident recovery for customers and local police forces so this requires me to be trained and competent in handling all specialist recovery equipment whiles still maintaining a safe and professional work environment for myself, other operators and members of the public.
This role meant I was driving some of the biggest and best vehicles on uk roads. Crouch Recovery are a well known recovery firm in and around the Uk, this meant I had to uphold a very high professional standard when I was performing roadside recoveries of commercial vehicles. This role was mainly carrying out safety inspections, servicing and mot prep on hgv units and trailers, this included diagnostics of mechanical and electrical faults in the workshop and also roadside. As I had my own workshop and service van this meant I was time managing so that customers vehicles were off the road for the shortest amount of time possible and that they successfully had there vehicles back on the road in the safest and quickest time possible. This role also included out of hours roadside brake downs and recoveries of hgvs and busses, this allowed to further push my knowledge of hgv driving and customer skills.
My role included carrying out daily pre trip checks on the unit and trailer before correctly securing the load. This role consisted of safely and correctly completing nationwide deliveries to houses and rdc sites, this would rang from little tool boxes to full loads of spices or carpets. I had to plan my own route to make sure I complied with all road rules and regulations as well as tachograph rules. Due to the wide variety of stock I would carry I had many interactions with all different types of customers allowing me to develop my customer service skills to make sure all needs were met.
Whilst on my apprenticeship, as well as attending block release at college I was putting my learning into real world situations working in an active breakdown and recovery garage. My tasks included servicing all makes and models of cars and vans, carrying out safety inspections and Mot preps. I would also be working among senior mechanics assisting with major engine and gearbox repairs, advanced diagnostics and complex wiring faults. As my career advanced I was out completing roadside breakdown diagnostics and repairs and also recovering vehicles off the side of the road in the event of a breakdown or accident , as well as more complex jobs such as brake and suspension replacements in the workshop.
