Last year I was asked to be a Key Note Speaker at the International Nurses Day (Learning Disabilities)
This was a big honour for me, and was asked due to my ongoing development in the trust going from an Apprentice Health Care Support worker to Registered Nurse. Some of the courses I have completed had not been done in the LD inpatient setting previously. I was able to talk about how I piloted some of the policies and show my gratitude for the investment in me.
But also share my passion in the field of LD nursing and how this is a discipline of nursing we need to protect and nurture those that pursue it.
A few months later I was also nominated and successful in winning the services individual Valued Star award. I was nominated by a student who was impressed by the mentorship she had received from me as a supervisor during her time in placement at the service. I was presented this award by one of the heads of services.
