I conducted portfolio management quality assurance (QA) to ensure that entities within our portfolio are being appropriately monitored and managed in line with internal policies and regulatory expectations.
I conducted sanctions screening of contracts and counterparties to ensure that no business relationship is formed with restricted or high-risk parties. This involves using screening tools and reviewing potential red flags before contracts are executed.
PEP (politically exposed persons) screening is designed to identify individuals who hold or have held prominent public roles who may pose a higher risk for involvement in bribery and corruption or money laundering.
Adverse media screening is designed to detect and assess potential risks associated with individuals or entities by identifying negative information from public sources such as news articles, blogs, social media, and legal records.
As part of the investee onboarding process, I conduct a secondary review to ensure that financial crime compliance is comfortable with the risk presented. This involves reassessing due diligence findings, including ownership structures, jurisdictional risks, sanctions exposure, PEP involvement, and adverse media. Based on this analysis, I would draft a financial crime assessment summarising any identified risks and the mitigating measures in place. Where I confirm that we are comfortable proceeding with the investment.
