I provide in-home support for a child with complex needs, including CLN2 Batten disease. I engage the child in sensory play and storytelling to support communication and emotional well-being, alongside assisting with feeding and daily care routines. I use careful observation to recognise signs of discomfort or seizures and respond appropriately, ensuring the child’s safety at all times. I maintain clear and effective communication with parents, demonstrating reliability, awareness, and a strong understanding of individual needs.
I also volunteer at a local after-school club for children aged 3–11. In this role, I supervise children during mealtimes to ensure safety, support outdoor play, and assist whenever needed. I am confident in managing groups of children, including encouraging them to listen and follow instructions. I plan and lead inclusive games and activities, ensuring all children feel involved and supported. I am able to work independently to prepare activity areas and maintain equipment, while consistently upholding safeguarding and behaviour policies.
During my time working as a cleaner in a school environment, I have built positive relationships with both colleagues and students. My responsibilities include maintaining stock levels and reordering supplies when necessary, training new staff, and ensuring that all areas I am responsible for consistently meet high standards. I follow strict health and safety procedures to maintain a safe and hygienic environment for both students and staff. I am reliable and communicate effectively with colleagues, contributing to a productive and well-organised workplace.
Furthermore, I have volunteered with a Girlguiding Rainbows group, supporting the delivery of inclusive and engaging activities for young children. I planned and adapted activities to ensure accessibility for all, promoting confidence and participation. I managed small groups, maintained a positive and structured environment, and provided emotional support to children when needed. This role strengthened my ability to work inclusively and create a safe, supportive space for every child.
I attended a local karate club from the age of 5 to the age of 13 where I learnt a lot about self defence and respect. I learnt how to work well in a team and listen to a group leader as well as lead my group, I also learnt discipline and patience when faced with a difficult task.
At the age of 14 I took part in bronze Duke of Edinburgh where I learnt resilience, map reading and the importance of teamwork under stressful situations. I also did 3 months learning a new skill, I choose horse riding and the care that is put in place to manage one. During this I learnt how to keep them safe and happy by feeding them and understanding their body language. I did 3 months of daily running where I built stamina and gained mental strength from persevering even when I felt tired or unwell. Finally I did 6 months of volunteering in a girl guiding's club called rainbows where I learnt how to engage with the children and control situations such as someone getting upset. I enjoyed this so much I decided to continue going for another year.
I participated in a 5k run called race for life, where I raised money for those suffering with cancer. while doing this I was able to learn about time management as well as when I have pushed myself to a degree where I should slow down.
