Rejoined former employer following the sale of his previous company Reel Group Ltd and became one of the first technicians recruited into the new organisation. Responsible for leading and supervising offshore inspection, lifting equipment surveys, and major wire rope replacement operations across offshore drilling units and heavy lifting systems worldwide.

Key Responsibilities & Experience

• Supervised and executed large-scale wire rope change-out operations on heavy lift offshore cranes, including 165-tonne Subsea crane systems, ensuring safe handling and installation of high-value crane wires.
• Managed the logistics, mobilisation, and positioning of specialist equipment required for wire rope replacement and crane maintenance operations.
• Performed and supervised Magnetic Rope Testing (MRT) inspections and high-pressure lubrication of crane and subsea lifting wires.
• Conducted wire rope change-outs, MRT inspections, and lubrication programmes across a variety of lifting systems including:
  Heavy lift offshore cranes (up to 165T capacity)
  Deck cranes
  Gantry cranes
  Subsea lifting winch systems
• Led and supervised lifting equipment surveys across numerous offshore drilling units including:
  Drillships
  Jack-up rigs
  Semi-submersible rigs
• Supervised load path surveys, ensuring all lifting and drilling systems met operational safety and compliance standards.
• Participated in drilling equipment inspection scopes, including involvement in Top Drive inspection programmes where equipment was stripped down by rig crews to allow NDT examination prior to reassembly.
• Supervised high-pressure pipework and pressure vessel inspections during rig survey campaigns.
• Coordinated and supervised subsea inspection scopes for HMH & Employing Companies, ensuring all NDT activities were completed in accordance with client specifications and industry standards.
• Worked as part of rope access teams to conduct inspections and maintenance tasks in difficult access areas across offshore installations.
• Produced and reviewed inspection reports and technical documentation following completion of inspection and maintenance workscopes.
• Conducted work across multiple international offshore locations supporting drilling contractors and equipment owners.

Worked within a workshop and yard environment supporting the inspection, refurbishment, and testing of offshore subsea drilling and well control equipment prior to redeployment offshore.

Key Responsibilities & Experience

• Assisted with the strip-down, inspection, refurbishment, and reassembly of subsea drilling and well control equipment.
• Worked on critical offshore assets including Blowout Preventers (BOPs), Annular Preventers, and marine riser equipment.
• Identified worn or damaged components during equipment disassembly and arranged for replacement seals ect as required.
• Coordinated with NDT inspection teams to ensure relevant components underwent Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) prior to reassembly.
• Assisted with the rebuilding and reassembly of subsea equipment in accordance with manufacturer procedures and workshop standards.
• Supported pressure testing and function testing to confirm integrity and operational performance following maintenance and refurbishment.
• Ensured all equipment met required inspection and operational standards before release.
• Assisted with surface preparation and repainting of equipment prior to return to the client or redeployment offshore.
• Worked alongside technicians, inspectors, and engineers within a yard-based workshop environment supporting subsea equipment maintenance programmes.

Joined Reel Group after leaving school and progressed from trainee technician to independently supervising offshore inspection and wire rope maintenance operations across multiple vessels and offshore scopes.

Key Responsibilities & Experience

• Assisted and later independently carried out Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspections on offshore dive vessels and associated lifting equipment.
• Conducted Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) on crane components, structural equipment, and lifting accessories.
• Supported inspection activities including Eddy Current Testing (ECI) and Ultrasonic Thickness Testing (UT) on various onboard pipework systems and structural assets.
• Assisted in preparation of inspection reports and technical documentation in accordance with industry standards and company procedures.
• Worked across multiple offshore vessels, supporting inspection, maintenance, and lifting equipment operations during scheduled workscopes.
• Played a key role in wire rope change-out operations on offshore crane systems including:
  Main boom hoists
  Auxiliary hoists
  Dive bell winch wires
• Performed Magnetic Rope Testing (MRT) inspections and high-pressure lubrication of crane and winch wire ropes.
• Conducted wire rope socketing, installation, and spooling operations, ensuring correct tensioning and safe handling procedures.
• Operated hydraulic deck spoolers and pneumatic spooling systems during wire installation and removal procedures.
• Progressed to leading work scopes and supervising small teams once deemed competent by the employer, taking responsibility for safe execution of offshore inspection and maintenance activities.
• Regularly deployed to offshore environments following completion of offshore survival training.
