I consider myself to be a meticulous individual who is well equipped to juggle tasks and able to deal with challenging circumstances in a rational way using a diplomatic nature to resolve the situation. Due to a keen drive to become part of the working industry, I have also developed the ability to work effectively within a team and equally alone. also acquire a caring suitable nature due to having previous experience of working with younger children and also coming from a big family. To whom this may concern,
This letter is regarding a student who is on a Foundation Degree in Counselling. The course is validated by Sheffield Hallam University with study taking place in Manchester at UCEN Manchester.
I am writing to ask whether there are possibilities for a placement opportunity within your organisation.
The student has recently completed a 10-hour placement at the counselling establishment of her choice. 42nd street is the organisation chosen for this placement.
The student is currently going into her second year of counselling which requires ‘Preparation for Work Practice' consisting of a 100-hour placement with clients at the beginning September 2022.
At this stage the objective is to find a placement either within a counselling service or within an organisation that provides counselling.
Students are expected to intern for approximately 5-6 hours per week, for a maximum period of five weeks. This is to better their understanding of the role as a counsellor and put all techniques and learning into practise while supporting the organisation's wider mission and strategy.
There is no requirement for a report, though students are required to keep a journal of learning.
Ideally it would be great if the student can question your colleagues and team members in a range of normal working activities – confidentiality policies permitting.

To whom this may concern,
my name is Taya Lemard and I live in Manchester.
I am 24 years old and have currently completely over 50 hours of my 100 hour placement. I have a level 2&3 in health social, level 3 in childcare and level 4 foundation counselling. I have worked with children for the past 4-5 years where I started off as an apprentice and was able to expand my knowledge of health and social care and childcare. The aspect of caring for others and playing a crucial part in their development is what inspired me to continue my learning and adapt this to different settings.
I then moved onto support work for asylum seekers, this interlinks with my counselling as it requires a lot of emotional stability when working with vulnerable individuals and to always consider an empathetic view on their experiences. Without counter transference of feelings, I was able to accept them as their own being rather than just through trauma and help them through providing coping strategies and techniques as well as validation of their feelings. This job has allowed me to take on trauma training, making me more self-aware of the skills I could use with these vulnerable people. I am intrigued to continue my journey working with individuals of all ages and experiences as I can gradually gain the skills needed to become a qualified counsellor. I do see myself as a very compassionate person when it comes to my duties as a trainee professional and I am always open for critical feedback to further my knowledge and career.
During my time on this course, I spent my first 50 hours working alongside KOGS (keeping girls safe) where they provided module handbooks full of information to help better our work ethic when working with vulnerable groups. The majority of my time working with young female adults who had suffered mental, sexual, physical or emotional abuse. I also had the experience of working within secondary schools which made more self-aware of the importance of counter transference especially when working with young people and the necessity of reflection allowing myself to provide a competent level of care. Additionally, clinical supervision has been highly beneficial in this area allowing me techniques to work with victims of abuse and being aware of the risk of potential burnout. I've recently been notified about a recruitment process and would like to apply for a counselling placement. I feel this organisation would be beneficial to my learning through continuing to work with vulnerable women, increasing my knowledge and adapting different skills sets when dealing with a wider range of trauma and experiences.
References are applicable through KOGS as well as my tutor and enhanced DBS verification on update service.
Thank you for taking time to read this letter and I hope to hear back from you soon.
Warmest wishes
Taya Lemard
