Acknowledging healthcare as my chosen career was initially a mixed decision, having worked within the healthcare setting for many years I chose to look internationally for other options. I decided to take time to travel and explore other interests outside of healthcare. My passion and career has always been clinical, with a desire to help others bringing me joy and fulfillment. Whilst working and travelling I was continuously reintroduced to healthcare. Whether it be on the streets of Sydney performing Basic Life Support and CPR following an RTC or in the rainforests of Northern Caines for dehydration and heat stroke. I found myself presented with emergency and non-emergency situations the reinforced my passion and enthusiasm for healthcare.
Having worked within the NHS as a Health Care Assistant(HCA) for 10+ years, I feel I have a wide comprehension of the working practice and standards of delivery expected as a member of the trust. The skills gained during my time became the fundamental structure and pivotal point in my journey to become a registered nurse. During my time working as a HCA (Band 3/4) I was fortunate to remain as a valued bank member of staff. This gave me the opportunity to experience a variety of specialities and scaled levels of care requirement. After being offered the opportunity to complete additional training and up-band to band 4, I expanded my experiences and took on long term cover within ITU (for 8 months) and SCBU (for 9.5 month). These opportunities provided vital critical and acute care experience providing knowledge and reinforcing resilience whilst working in these speciality areas. Similarly I was offered a opportunity to train and cover maternity leave within the operating theatres specialising in general and emergent surgery. This contributed to my acute surgical care skills, as well as a high standard of infection control and sterility maintenance.
