I am an artist, disabled activist and academic interested in the science and application of compassionate empathy and its potential role in conflict resolution, cross cultural collaboration, understanding and community building.In my art and research I explore ways of telling and sharing our lived experiences in ways that might empower and give voice to marginalised or excluded communities. .

Research Fellow

We Are The People Project
  • We Are The People is a small research team of disabled academics and non-disabled allies engaged in disability research and disability activism
  • We've been awarded a five-year, £1million grant from the Wellcome Trust to develop a disability research network in South West England
  • As an example of current action: I recently designed and facilitated the We Are The People Festival of Inclusion, Disability and Community Action in Corsham Sept/November 2022 in partnership with Corsham Town Council, Pound Arts Centre and local community activists.

Sensing Climate Project

  • The Horizon Europe-funded ‘Sensing Climate’ project which is embedding the expertise of disabled people in new strategies to navigate a changing world caused by the climate crisis
  • I am leading on the creative writing work stream in Bristol, Glasgow and Dublin.

  • D4D (Dis/engagement, Dis/empowerment, Dis/parity and Dissent) was a research programme investigating the evolving ways in which we as disabled people express, perform, experience and practise ‘community’
  • Funded by the AHRC’s Connected Communities stream, D4D consisted of a number of different contributing projects exploring diverse areas such as robotics, the arts, education, employment, genetics and gaming
