Research Projects

Gene Cloning Project (8 Weeks):

• Conducted DNA cloning using bacteriophage lambda fragments and plasmid vector pBR322, performing enzyme digestion, ligation, transformation, and clone verification via electrophoresis and antibiotic resistance assays.

GCN4 Gene Expression Project (6 Weeks):

• Explored the translational regulation mechanisms of the GCN4 gene in Saccharomyces cerevisiae under amino acid starvation conditions.
• Utilized lacZ reporter plasmids in wild-type and mutant strains to measure β-galactosidase activity, assessing differential gene expression in nutrient-rich and nutrient-starved environments.

Phosphatase Inhibitor Identification Project (9 Weeks):

• Screened 28 household substances for alkaline phosphatase inhibition, assessing IC50 values and enzyme kinetics, identifying inhibitors relevant to osteoporosis, diabetes, and multiple sclerosis.

Produced comprehensive lab reports, achieving a grade of A for all projects.

Presentations Delivered:

• Marfan Syndrome: Collaboratively researched and delivered a group presentation on the genetic, molecular, and physiological aspects of Marfan syndrome, emphasizing connective tissue pathology.
• Maternal-Fetal Immunological Interactions and Recurrent Miscarriages: Independently researched and delivered detailed presentations on immune mechanisms influencing maternal-fetal interactions, identifying key causes and potential interventions for recurrent pregnancy loss.
