Gaps in employment

I have been in full-time employment since leaving sixth form, and any gaps in my employment history have been due to maternity leave and further education.

Team working

  • I have been involved in teamwork throughout both my employment and nursing training, and I understand how important good communication and cooperation are in providing safe and effective care.
  • In my role as a healthcare assistant, I worked closely with nurses, carers, families and other professionals to support vulnerable adults in their own homes and in residential settings. Teamwork was essential to ensure care was consistent and that any changes in a patient's condition were shared promptly. For example, when supporting people living with dementia, I regularly communicated concerns or changes in behaviour so that the wider team could respond appropriately and adapt care where needed.
  • In my support worker role within a children's residential home, teamwork was also central to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for young people. This involved working closely with colleagues during shifts, sharing information clearly at handover, and making sure documentation was completed accurately. I also supported staff who were less confident using the computer systems by showing them how to navigate the system, access information and complete online training, which helped the team work more effectively.
  • During my nursing placements, I have also worked as part of multidisciplinary teams, learning how important mutual support, clear communication and shared responsibility are in delivering high-quality patient care. These experiences have strengthened my ability to work collaboratively, support others and contribute positively within a team.
