I've been working in Surgical Appliances for 8 years now and I thoroughly enjoy my role. I deal with various clinics including Orthotics, Breast Prosthesis and Surgical Hosiery. I ensure they run smoothly and that we offer outstanding patient care. I deal with administration, booking appointments, problem solving, invoices, processing orders. Dealing with patients both face to face and over the telephone. I am proficient in our computer systems and regularly undertake the latest training courses. I work closely with my colleagues providing support and guidance whenever is needed. I have the responsibility to supervise my colleague as she has the role of Band 3 Administrator. I also often go over to our sister hospital to cover the department over there. I have a deep understanding of how important it is to work as a team to provide a good service to our patients. Equally being at management level, I'm capable of working on my own and using initiative at all times. I was solely running the department on my own at one stage due to staff sickness but I dealt with it in a calm and efficient manner.
I provided care to my clients, some of which had Dementia.
My daily tasks included Administering medication, providing practical assistance in order for my clients to maintain their independence. Most of my clients mother tongue was Greek so I translated for them at Doctors/hospital appointments.
I kept daily records of work filing them, reporting and recording anything of concern whilst maintaining client confidentiality. I also contributed to the development of others in the team and trained new members by mentoring them. I had outstanding relationships with my clients, promoting their equality and diversity.
This role was a temporary role originally only for 6 months but was extended. I covered the telephones for the Director/Assistant director of finance. Organising meetings for them, booking conference rooms. I dealt with logging and monitoring members enquiries, ensuring that the responses were accurate and within the council/statutory guidelines. I provided Administrative support to the heads of finance with writing letters and logging data onto the computer system.
