• Responsible for the 4 operating room unit in JCI Accredited hospital
• Administrative and clinical activities in the OT premises inclusive of the preoperative holding area and the post-operative recovery area.
• Coordinates patient placement for optimal utilization of beds and equipment based on priority of patient care needs.
• Ensure safe practices are adhered to at all times in the OT including the compliance to the organization’s protocol for ‘Time Out’.
• Follow up with patients post-operatively.
• Administer drugs/medications as per doctor’s orders.
• Coordinates with the nursing supervisor to develop appropriate inventory systems, which are ongoing, preventing shortages or overstocking within the unit.
• Coordinates with hospital nursing supervisors to obtain emergency medications, equipment and supplies, ensuring records are up to date and inventories protected.
• Ensures preventative and ongoing maintenance of equipment is carried out, reporting all failures or deficiencies through appropriate department head.
• In coordination with the Education Department, develop, coordinate and directs orientation/cross training programs which are competency based, documented and evaluated.
• Responsible for daily checking of crash carts and emergency equipment as per hospital policy.
• Monitor, record and report any symptoms and changes in patients condition pre-operatively, intraoperatively and immediate post operatively.
• Don and adhere to operating room proper attire according to hospital policy and procedures
• Checking thoroughly the pre-operative checklist of patient, including checking completion of required diagnosis and laboratory procedures
• Provide safety to patient, to self, to whole surgical team by adopting safety protocols applicable to the unit
• Demonstrate daily to position patient with the use of positioning aids, maintaining circulatory, neuromuscular homeostasis while maintaining privacy and maximum exposure to the operative site
• Ensure that all waste generated within OT complex is dispose as of waste disposal protocols
• Monitor and ensure that thorough cleaning and disinfection of the OT complex as per the schedule
• Deliver specimen to laboratory for histopathology and analysis.
• Respect and support patient’s rights and maintain confidentiality of the patient.
• Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
