Website Making I have volunteered to help redesign Holme Valley Foodbank’s website. This allowed to develop my communication skills with my team and develop my programming skills in HTML, CSS and JavaScript while also benefitting the local community.
School Council I have been my form representative for 3 consecutive years and then went on to become the president of our school council at North Huddersfield Trust School. This opportunity allowed me to build my leadership skills greatly, and helped me to learn how to plan presentations and group meetings with other people in the council.
Alan Turing institute - defence and security work experience
We learnt a great amount of the different opportunities there are in tech. We learnt also the sustainability, ethics and functions of AI and computer vision. Also, I was able to develop soft skills such as communicating, presenting and most importantly learning through working.
Fujitsu - Virtual Work Experience - Completed Fujitsu’s Virtual Work Experience programme, gaining insight into the technology and IT services industry. Developed understanding of digital transformation, cybersecurity, and project management through interactive tasks and case studies, while enhancing communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills in a professional context.
Cambridge STEM Smart - Participated in the Cambridge STEM Smart programme, a university-led initiative designed to support and prepare high-achieving students from underrepresented backgrounds for STEM degree courses. Engaged in advanced subject content, problem-solving workshops, and university-style learning, enhancing both academic confidence and readiness for higher education in STEM fields.
Reach for Excellence – University of Leeds - Took part in the Raising Futures Engineers (RFE) programme at the University of Leeds, aimed at inspiring and preparing students for careers in engineering. Gained hands-on experience through engineering challenges, university-style lectures, and mentoring sessions, developing key skills in problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking within a STEM context.
Games Testing – University of Huddersfield
Spent a day at the University of Huddersfield and tested out different games that were developed by students there. This experience helped me to understand the psychological research needed to go through games. It also helped me to understand how to give constructive feedback to people to help them make their game as optimum as possible.
Bebras Challenge -
This competition was to test how well you can think outside the box and how well you can spot patterns in data, and I am happy to have participated in it.
Hack the Box - Actively engaged with Hack The Box, an online cybersecurity platform offering hands-on penetration testing and ethical hacking challenges. Developed practical skills in areas such as network security, vulnerability assessment, privilege escalation, and Linux/Windows exploitation through solving real-world scenarios and participating in Capture the Flag (CTF) exercises.
TryHackMe - In the process of completing hands-on cybersecurity training with TryHackMe, a platform offering interactive labs and Capture the Flag (CTF) challenges. Gained practical experience in areas including penetration testing, web exploitation, privilege escalation, cryptography, and digital forensics, building strong problem-solving and technical security skills.
IBM Introduction to Cyber Careers - Coursera
This course helped me to understand the different careers in the Cybersecurity sector, and the different skills needed for each course. This course helped me to develop perseverence by completing all modules, and also helped me learn organizational and research skills by planning future career aspects.
