My duties in the department of Medicine included the following:

• Attending the morning handover.

• Taking patient history, performing relevant clinical examinations, making differentials and formulating a management plan.

• Discussing patients with the consultant before the ward round.

* Making drug charts.

* Requesting imaging scans.

* Making referrals to other departments.

* Making discharge summaries

* Counseling the attendants regarding care at home.

• We had OPD weeks where we had patient consultations along with the Trainee Residents – Endocrinology OPD, Hematology Clinic, General OPD.

• In the ER we worked in teams led by a Consultant which included a batch leader and Trainee residents.

• I had a ward call every fourth day where we looked after in-patients.

• We had weekly teaching sessions and a medicine meeting every 2 weeks.

• I had the opportunity to teach medical students clinical examinations, drug prescription and the basics of formulating a management plan.

My duties involved taking histories , performing examinations, blood sampling, sending investigations, developing treatment plans, updating drug charts and making discharges or sending referrals.

I have done 3 months rotations in Medicine, Surgery , Peadiatrics , Obstretics & Gynaecology each which inluded OPDs, Emergencies, Wards and OTs.

Summary of my duties :

Attending the morning handover.

Taking histories, performing examinations, blood sampling, making differentials and formulating management plans.

Other procedures like IV cannulations, ABGs, NG tube, Catherization, Ascitic Taps, Lumbar Puncture , ETT placement , ECG recording,Drain/Stitch removal etc

Writing /Updating Drug charts

Sending refferals

Making Discharges and Death Certificates.

Assisting my seniors in OT.
