Hobbies and Interests

Playing Football for teams such as Huddersfield Town, Leeds United and York City. I also played football in national leagues for York Schoolboys, North Yorkshire and York College. I still continue to play football and continue to support Leeds United (Unfortunately!)., Squash, Tennis & Golf, Running

Accomplishments

July – August 2017, Indian Head Camp: Cabin Councillor

I travelled to Pennsylvania, America to work as a cabin councillor at Indian Head Camp. The job involved looking after a group of 10 children for 7 weeks. I saw this as an opportunity to further myself as a person, while experiencing a completely different culture. I developed my skills in time keeping and sticking to a schedule to make sure the children got to the activities in time. I carefully managed arguments within the group in a calm and calculated manner, while still saying assertive. I found with the more difficult children I was able to man manage them so they could enjoy activities more, and therefore extract the most out of their abilities. As can be the case with children, conditions or situations are constantly changing. Thinking quickly to adapt to the environment was a crucial skill needed in order to keep each day running smoothly.

June – September 2016, June 2017 AGH Engineering: Junior Designer.

I undertook a summer placement at an electrical design rail company (AGH) situated in York. Although this was while I was undertaking a Mechanical Engineering degree, I felt I wanted to go out of my comfort zone in order to gain experience in a different sector of engineering and therefore develop my knowledge across a range of sectors. While working at AGH, I was assigned to design many key layout and schematic drawings for major rail projects which are currently taking place in the UK, such as the Crossrail scheme. I was able to work away at many locations, and given the responsibility of carrying out surveys at many high profile stations.
