PERSONAL STATEMENT I am a confident, resilient and highly experienced leader with over 30 years' experience in the Motor Industry. In my most recent position I was head-hunted and recognised by the Commercial Director of MG UK as an exemplary individual who could turn around any business. This led me to my most recent assignment which began as Head of Sales Operations for a car dealership group, based in the North-East. Within 6 weeks I had proven myself and was given the role of Head of Group Operations which included managing the sales department, aftersales department, marketing department including all personnel management within those departments. I excel in challenging situations and am looking for a new challenge that makes good use of my wide range of skills and my deep-rooted commitment to giving my all to whatever role I am given. Historically, during my career in motors I have been complicit in ensuring the businesses I ran won multiple industry awards for sales, aftersales and customer service. Having held a broad range of roles within a car dealership and worked my way through the layers of management, I possess an excellent understanding of the full business. I'm known as a people manager with a passion for delivering excellent customer service, I have a direct and considered approach which has served me well over the years. When it comes to dealing with individuals, I find that I can quickly assess a situation and see the best method to diffuse any conflict, highlight a new strategy or motivate someone to bring out their best. I am as comfortable communicating with technicians in the workshop as I am holding my own within a Boardroom with fellow shareholders and upper management. I bring this confidence along with me when I interface with senior people at manufacturers, finance houses or the business partners I encounter and maintain excellent relationships with some key members of the partners we have worked with over the years. I have a keen eye for highlighting and realising opportunities across the breadth of the business I have worked within, including but not limited to - additional franchise opportunity, internal target setting and achievement of manufacturer goals, identifying sales and aftersales opportunities for growth and realising untapped areas of the business . I have also managed and headed the supply of vehicles to various rental companies over the years. My experience to date is diverse and thorough, with a tremendous amount of transferrable skills in leadership, sales, as well as people and performance management which I hope to utilise going forward and know that I am an excellent candidate for a variety of roles as a result.

  • Within 6 weeks of working for Richard Hardie, I was promoted to HGO
  • The company quickly saw what could offer and liked what I had started within the Sales structure, how I went about my business and wanted me to replicate this in Aftersales
  • As well as Aftersales I also took full control over the Marketing department and Administration/Accounts functions reporting directly to the owners of the business
  • Throughout this position I have built relationships across the entire business both internally and externally with manufacturers and agencies
  • Implementing key reporting structures and processes which have created more visibility and accessibility of the areas for improvement and progression
  • Prior to my arrival there was limited access to the key stats that showed where the business was both achieving and falling behind target
  • I am able to quickly see where improvements can be made but also aware that most people require visual guides when it comes to seeing shortfalls and successes so I endeavour to provide comprehensive reporting on areas of development.

  • Overseeing retail and trade sales performance, enquiry management and customer satisfaction
  • My first task was to hit Quarter 3 new car volume objective for MG (our main manufacturer partner)
  • The business had not hit volume objectives for nearly 12 month and because of this were on an escalation to potential termination
  • My main responsibility was to ensure they achieved their Q3 target and remove the threat of termination
  • I was successful in my objective and I did this by engaging the team and breaking down our Quarterly target into weekly goals
  • I gave greater visibility on stock orders, changing the culture on enquiry management, running various promotion events and putting great emphasis on appointment making
  • It was also important to implement various daily reporting processes to ensure we could track and identify trends and varying performance

Group Operations Director

  • This role began with responsibility for a site the group currently held and through my ownership and guidance became a much larger role taking on additional sites around Yorkshire and more diverse business opportunities over the course of my position
  • For example we covered three manufacturers through our franchises, opened a solus used vehicle operation within our territory and went from a £10 million to a £60m turnover
  • Responsibilities include:
  • Overall responsibility for the entire network of up to five separately located dealerships within Group
  • Operational Management of sales, aftersales, parts and bodyshop facilities and their respective staff
  • Relationship management with the two Franchises held by the business - Hyundai & MG (included Peugeot up until 2022 also)
  • Supplying vehicles to Fleet companies and maintaining those working relationships
  • Management of balance scorecard across the dealer group and across all manufacturers
  • Instrumental in purchasing and acquiring Arundale Peugeot in 2014 and Hatfields York in 2017
  • I also identified MG as a manufacturer that had a huge future potential and I personally without request made initial contact with them in April 2019 enabling the business to secure them for our sites in Hull, York and Scarborough for the start of 2020
  • This role grew enormously each time we acquired a new business and franchise

  • Total overall management and responsibility of the full dealership (Minstergate Hull)
  • The new owner had lost confidence in the existing DP and was going to sell the business, he announced to the staff that he had sold the business to a local dealer
  • I then spoke to him and I discussed the opportunity that we had in front of us
  • Hyundai was a great partner and one I had built an exceptional relationship with, I also assured the owner that we had a brilliant team and I was confident we could achieve great things
  • The owner decided to reverse his decision to sell the business and I was personally given total operational control of the site as General Manager
