I have been working at WRi Groups since 2015 as an investigator and trainer.

I am a qualified senior investigator from my previous role and over the last 11 years i have conducted both overt and covert investigations, assisting Trading Standards Officers across the UK.

In addition to investigation i am a qualified trainer and have been training officers form local authorities in all aspects of criminal investigation.

For that last 8 years i have been the accredited trainer for the Chartered Trading Standards Institute in relation to their professional qualifications framework, delivering the Criminal Investigation module.

I regularly conduct training needs assessments for local authorities and devise training courses to meet their needs. In order to ensure that i deliver appropriate training i have completed the following:

During this period i was the Deputy Head of Professional Standards. This involved dealing with complaints from the public and also running an anti-corruption unit dealing with internal crimes and misconduct.

This role required strong leadership and character dealing with matters that could have a detrimental impact on the police.

Integrity and honesty are at the heart of policing and my role was to instill these qualities into all officers and staff. During this period i ran the discipline and training aspects for the NATO Summit in Newport which involved over 9000 officers from across the UK. This involved designing and creating a training plan for delivery to all 9000 officers at locations across South Wales.

As T/Detective Superintendent i was the Head of Public protection which included being responsible for Serious Sexual and Violent Crime, Child Abuse, Adult Abuse, Domestic Violence, and the management of high risk sex offenders.

I led a team of around 84 detectives and police staff protecting the communities of Gwent from the most serious offences. I was also the force lead safeguarding officer and was a member of a number of safeguarding boards designing and implementing key strategies to protect the most vulnerable.

I was also a qualified Senior Investigating Officer leading investigations into homicide and other major crimes.

I was the Lead Officer for a new approach to Rape and Serious Sexual Crime. I set up and established a bespoke unit called the Onyx Unit which was dedicated team of detectives dealing with rape and serious sexual crime. I worked with doctor's and rape charities to design a bespoke approach through the use of female only doctors for female victims and a dedicated sexual assault referral centre for victims.

The unit was visited by Baroness Stern and Dominic Grieve the Attorney General due to the quality of the support given to victims. Both praised the success of the unit and this was probably the most proud moment of my career.

I was appointed DCI at Blackwood in 2005 and was responsible for all aspects of serious crime across the borough.

I had responsibility for around 400 officers and for delivering crime reduction strategies across the area.

In addition to this i was also dealing with a number of homicide cases as the SIO.

I would chair the tasking and coordination meetings to ensure that our resources were dealing with the most serious issues based on risk and harm.

I was also a member of the safeguarding boards for two authorities and conducted a number of mental health and serious case reviews.

During this period i set up the first Family Support Unit in Newport dealing with child abuse, adult abuse, domestic violence and sex offenders.

I established key roles to tackle this type of crime and it was during this time that i won a National Criminal Justice award for the protection of over 120 children and the prosecution of a number of offenders for serious sexual crimes against children.

I led a team of around 100 officers and staff dealing with crime and disorder.

As a senior police officer i had responsibility for the delivery of key projects alongside leading criminal investigations into the most serious crimes

One example of my creativity came when i investigated a child death I identified that human tissue samples had been retained unlawfully and without the family's consent As such i liaised with pathologists, coroners and the college of policing and developed and published a new approach to the recovery and retention of Human Tissue which is now national best practice

Accomplishments

During my career i have been commended on multiple occasions by the Chief Constable for my work in relation to Homicide and other serious crimes. I won a National Criminal Justice Award in 2005 for my work protecting and safeguarding children and i have developed new approaches to Human Tissue for which i was also commended.
