In October 2023 I was promoted to the position of Operations Director, reporting to the Managing Director
I’m responsible for the safe and efficient operations of all company vessels, now numbering 16 with over 150 crew members and staff
Recently I’ve overseen several new build projects working closely with shipyards to ensure completion is on budget, on time and to the highest standard
Recently our operational area has expanded significantly and includes the support of offshore wind projects across the north east coast of Scotland

August 2021 Forth Ports acquired Targe Towing Limited and as part of the company’s restructure, I was appointed Operations Manager
This included managing a fleet of tugs, crew transfer vessels and work boats providing towage services across the UK and marine services on behalf of INEOS at their crude export terminal, Hound Point
The acquisition of Targe and the following restructure, included myself overseeing the integration and harmonisation of all safety management and operating systems across the company, including those of Forth Estuary Towage, which now fell under the management of Targe Towing

Master
Forth Ports

In May 2018 Forth Port took delivery of their first ASD tug
This signalled a change in both the type of vessel operated by Forth Estuary Towage and the structure of their crewing
I was brought in to help the roll out a more efficient way of operating, manning and maintaining their vessels whilst also training the remaining crews on how to operate and manage modern day ASD tugs
Master
Kotug Smit
05.2016 - 05.2018
In May 2016 I made the difficult decision to leave Targe and join Kotug Smit
Whilst personally very happy at Targe I felt a new challenge was required from a professional point of view
One which would further expand and expose my working experience to new methods, techniques, and opportunities
Master
Targe Towing Limited
03.2010 - 05.2016
Progressing to Master after one year as Mate
This time with Targe allowed me to progress and understand how a well-run and operated company can perform whilst striving for excellence in safety and operations
The Maersk Company
09.2002 - 12.2009
I started my sea going career with Maersk working mainly on container vessels but also experienced tanker work, and progressed to the rank of 2nd officer before taking voluntary redundancy
For my last 6 months with Maersk I worked as a Cadet Training Officer
As Cadet Training Officer I was responsible for the training of up to 8 cadets on board a designated cadet training vessel, I also took part in shore based roles such as cadet interviews and inductions
During my time with Maersk I also gained additional experience within the industry:
6 weeks standing by the 'Maersk Kendal' at the Hanjin Ship building yard Busan Korea
During this time I was able to gain valuable experience in ship design, construction and the process of 'running up' a new vessel
2 weeks working in the London office assisting with the implementation of the fleet wide ISPS security plans when introduced back in 2004
