Station Interface and Compliance Manager

  • To maintain a safe working environment for all railway staff, contractors, and passengers while at Birmingham New Street Railway Station
  • Act as a single point of contact for enhancement projects for the station, general retail works, major retail works, interfacing with Network Rails major projects at the station, such as the Gateway Project, Resignalling Project; this ensures all station operational interfaces are not affected by these works
  • Lead a team of people who manage our trade reception by ensuring all people working on the station comply with Network Rail's Standards & Procedures
  • Maintain relationships with the RSSB, Train Operators through the Platform Train Interface and station working groups.
  • Maintained accurate and detailed compliance records.
  • Maintained company compliance by advising Shift Station Manager's on operating procedures, regulations, rules and guidelines.
  • Act as the designated competant person for investigations occuring at the station.

Station Operations Coordinator

  • To maintain a safe working environment for all the train dispatchers and passengers while at New Street
  • My duties are safety critical in nature which would involve train dispatch, liaising with the signal box manager and the train operating companies about all train movements in and around Birmingham New Street Station
  • Other duties included safety communications with the signal box and the dispatchers, dealing staff issues that arise, helping with the platform rosters and dealing with train performance at the station
  • Duties also include performance management and tracking for delay reporting along with incident details and investigations
  • Part of this role is also to deputies for the Duty Operation Manager which involves Line Manager duties such as staff welfare, investigations.

Health and Safety Representative

  • As the Health and Safety representative is to ensure the staff have a safe working environment in which to carry out their duties and also to ensure that the public remain safe whilst travelling through the station
  • Part of my duties include quarterly inspections of the station with the management team, this is done separate to the daily inspections I carry out whilst on duty
  • I also look after the operational risk assessments for the platforms at Birmingham new street station
  • My other duties as a Health and Safety Representative have been to work closely with the station management team, RSSB (I am on several RSSB working groups) and the ORR
  • Work has included investigating ways in which we can improve the working environment for the staff, Fatigue management, Train dispatch standard review, investigational work in regards hazards identified by the ORR on inspections
  • I have been heavily engaged with governing bodies for the rail industry with work carried out at the station allow me to form a good working relationship from across the industry.
