  • Strengthened sensitization and utilization of National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) services in the county which enabled the facilities to achieve financial autonomy and improved maternity services. Through sensitization, 90% of government facilities were able to enroll and access NHIF services.
  • Provided technical support to the counties in the development and implementation of planning and budgeting activities such as Annual Work Plans (AWP), Annual Performance Reviews (APR).
  • Advocated for the inclusion and prioritization of maternal and newborn health interventions in the counties' APR and AWPs.

  • Strengthened hemovigilance activities such as blood collection, hemovigilance training, hemovigilance action tracking to reduce maternal deaths due to blood loss during delivery.
  • Collected more than 20,000 pints of blood through frequent blood drives in the counties. This reduced maternal deaths caused by excessive bleeding to 0%.
  • Supported 90 staff to undergo hemovigilance training which led to improved knowledge and skills on blood issues. This led to increased utilization of blood components across the transfusing health facilities.
  • Appointed member of Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) Technical Working Group. Chaired one of the meetings on assessing the quality of MPDSR recommended actions.
