Skills

  • Veterinary knowledge - Having had the role of OOH veterinary assistant throughout my final year of university, I am confident that this has widely expanded my veterinary knowledge within practice settings, allowing me to become more familiar with the medications available, their administration and use, and also how certain conditions can be managed
  • Adaptable to unexpected events - The ability to adapt to patient needs, and respond to in-patient changes independently, was a crucial skill to have during my work at the Grange, and it is one for which I feel has greatly developed throughout my time there
  • Client relationship building - By undertaking veterinary placements within the same practices throughout vet school, I have been able to build relationships with a number of repeat clients, more specifically farm clients This has brought about a level of mutual trust and confidence between myself and these clients, as they have watched me progress throughout my studies
  • Emergency response capability - By working night shifts and answering the OOH phones, I have been able to build upon my skills in dealing with emergency situations I am able to tailor my history taking to form a more complete understanding of the situation, and also feel confident in my ability to provide advice to clients
