Working in Safeguarding at HMP Peterborough and now currently within children's Social Services, I have learnt how to work under pressure while remaining calm. This allows me to find positive solutions in sensitive situations. I work closely with families, authorities and social services on a regular basis to find the desired outcome to best protect the child or adult involved.
In this role i work within the MASH team for Children's Social Services, there are a variety of different tasks which make this role, i answer the phone to members of the public and some professionals to assist them with any queries, this can include speaking to family members who are expressing concerns regarding a child.
I am the first port of call for any referrals that are submitted, these referrals can be from members of the public or any professional such as the police, schools or hospitals. I then create these referrals and submit them to the Senior Practitioners, I answer emails from families and professionals, I also fill in EHCP's for the SEN team.
I have a close working relationship with social workers and pass any information onto them which may come into us.
I also complete MARAC and Strategy paperwork for any high risk cases.
This role requires you to have a broad knowledge of children's social care and also of Liquid Logic, EHM and LCS.
In this role, I identify all new prisoners each day that have committed an offence against a child or a sexual offence.
I then ensure that all the relevant markers are on the file to safeguard any children and victims.
I provide all relevant paperwork to Social Services and Probation to inform them the prisoner is in our establishment.
This role requires working closely with the authorities and social services when a prisoner is requesting contact with a child.
I liaise with both parties to ensure the correct contact is put in place, I also work with the families to maintain contact between them and the prisoner in question.
I use my knowledge and experience in this sector to decide the safest and most effective route to take. Any decision is always in the best interest of the child and the family.
I often put no contact orders, restraining orders and non molestation orders in place.
At the end of each month I provide figures to senior management, referring to new prisoners, their categories and if safeguarding orders have been put in place.
Whilst working in the PDU department, I decided for further my skill set and apply for a different role in the prison.
This role included the transfers of prisoners in and out of the jail, categorising them based on certain details of their offences.
Printing the PNC's to ensure all the relevant offence details were correct. Ensuring that we were transferring the correct prisoner to the correct jail
Whilst working in the details department i was asked to cover a member of staff in the PDU department who was on a leave of absence, following a successful spell i was asked to remain in this department full time.
My duties included dealing with prisoner complaints, ensuring their complaint was sent to the relevant department to deal with and making sure these responses were sent out on time.
This developed my confidence in hitting deadlines. Part of this job role was also dealing with correspondence from external parties such as solicitors, the police and courts.
I would make sure the correspondence was responded to on time and would ensure that the prisoners gave authorisation for departments to respond.
This developed my experience in Data Protection. I was also the IMB clerk for a group of independent individuals who worked in the prison, i would collect applications from the prisoners so the IMB could make an appointment with them, draw up their weekly rota, send of their travel expenses and also minute their monthly meetings.
During my time within this job i was approached by my manager to step up and fulfil the role of the directors PA due to the current PA leaving, i took this job role on which included duties such as, dealing with confidential complaints, arranging meetings externally and internally for the director, liaising with PA's from other jails to arrange meetings, being responsible for the directors diary and meeting and greeting visitors.
I was also still fulfilling the role of my current job at the same time, this helped to improve my organisational skills. A further duty of this job role was to be a log keeper in the command suite when any serious incidents occurred within the jail, this was to minute the incident step by step.
In this job role i worked within a team to staff the prison on a daily basis, this included making sure all the prison officers were on their correct shifts, authorising their annual leave and submitting any overtime.
I also had to contact prison officers to do overtime to ensure that the prison was staffed efficiently, during this process we would often stay late to make sure the detail was correct the next day. This showed my flexibility to assist my colleagues when needed.
I was i the sales and service department of Tesco Pet insurance. Over the phone customer service. Arranging and setting up policies for customers pets.
Retaining customers when their policy was due for renewal if they were unhappy with the price.
Ensuring any promotions or offers that were on were giving to the customers if qualified. Dealing with any customer complaints, attempting to resolve them at the first level, if they were still unhappy escalating it to the complaints department.
Empathising with customers when they called to inform us their pet had passed away, then ensuring we cancelled the policy correctly so they received no further information regarding their policy.
Working in a team and assisting my colleagues with any queries.
Agreeing to overtime if we were short staffed to take pressure of the work load. I was also part of the postal team who sent out letters and dealt with incoming letters from customers who had any queries regarding their policies
I worked two job roles at Tesco. Photo lab Technician. Developing peoples photographs from their mobile phones and also from hand held cameras.
Taking negatives from cameras and developing them to photos. Creating items such as Key rings, pens and also photo frames with customers photos of choice.
Ensuring that their photos were developed on time and were presented with no marks or fingerprints.
Dealing with any complaints and escalating to the correct level. Checking through photographs to make sure they are not showing any indecent images, escalating to the correct external agency if there are any concerns over certain photos.
Cashing up the till at the end of the day. Checkout assistant. Dealing with customers face to face. Providing a customer service if there are any concerns over the food they have purchased. Ensuring the till is correct and cashed up at the end of my shift.

Dealing face to face with customers on a daily basis. Dealing with customers money and ensuring the correct change is given.
Dealing with customer complaints and problems with items and providing a customer service to get this rectified. Rearranging sections on the shop floor and taking away any damaged items.

Working alongside the pharmacist to ensure the correct medication is going out to the correct patients.
