
Sophia Golan is a theatre director, writer, actor, and a musician. Most recently she has been Assistant Director to Jay Miller throughout the development of his new adaptation of King Lear, starring Sir Ian McKellen, co-written by Simon Stephens. She was James Macdonald's Assistant Director on Christmas Day at the Almeida Theatre. She was Jay Miller's Assistant Director on Olivier Award winning 'The Glass Menagerie' at The Yard Theatre She directed 'Brief Play About Rage' at The Cockpit Theatre as part of Camden Fringe Festival, which transferred to Omnibus Theatre. She assisted Oliver Frljić at the Gorki Theatre in Berlin, and was Katie Mitchell's intern at Hamburg Schauspielhaus. She graduated with distinction with her MA in Theatre Directing at Royal Holloway University of London, where she studied closely with Katie Mitchell.
She wrote and directed shows at The Omnibus, The Cockpit, Camden People's Theatre, Playhouse East, The Old Red Lion Theatre, and more.
Sophia was invited to participate in the National Theatre's Directors Course in the coming autumn.

Sophia gave a week-long workshop, exploring Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House using Pina Bausch's Dance Theatre technique.
She gave a three-day workshop for East 15, exploring Hanoch Levin's The Child Dreams.
Golan directed a rehearsed reading of Hanoch Levin's "The Thin Soldier", working with Gesher's young ensemble.
She conducts English creative writing workshops for non-native speakers. She did this as part of the InFluency community for non-native English speakers, which was founded by Hadar Shemesh.
She wrote and directed the video "To the Royal Holloway and Beyond" in order to fund her Theatre Directing MA degree at the Royal Holloway University of London. Following the success of the video, she managed to raise over 14,000 pounds.

She refused to enlist in the Israeli army out of pacifism and was among the only 11 in her yearbook released on a conscience clause. Instead, she volunteered as a teacher at the "Foundation for Fostering Education in Jaffa".

Since childhood, she volunteered at "MAAN - Workers Association". MAAN is a foundation that works to create equal rights for Palestinians and Israelis, emphasising Palestinian women's rights.
