Barbara Stephens has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to higher education and the promotion of equality throughout her career. Starting as an engineer, she transitioned into an industrial advisor role before becoming the Chief Executive of the West Cumbria Development Agency. Following an accident, Barbara's passion for higher education led her to a 12-year involvement in establishing the University of Cumbria and serving as a Board Director for five years.
