As a dedicated professional woman from the BAME community, I am deeply passionate about advancing public health and addressing health disparities within underserved populations. My commitment to public health stems from a desire to contribute to meaningful change by identifying and implementing evidence-based solutions that improve community health outcomes.
Throughout my academic and professional journey, I have cultivated a strong foundation in public health principles, including disease prevention, health promotion, and epidemiology. I am particularly interested in pursuing research that explores the social determinants of health, health equity, and the development of policies aimed at reducing health inequities, these are all topics that I have studied in my degree and would like to further my knowledge on.I bring a unique perspective and lived experience that enriches my understanding of the diverse challenges faced by underrepresented populations. This perspective drives my commitment to inclusivity and cultural competence in research and public health interventions.
A role in public health research represents a pivotal step in my career, offering the opportunity to deepen my expertise, contribute to impactful studies, and develop innovative strategies to address complex public health challenges. Through this role, I aim to enhance my research skills, build networks within the public health community, and translate research findings into actionable policies and practices.
Through the university I managed to apply for a competitive role as a research officer in evidence synthesis in public health, based on my grades and experience I was able to get the role to further expand my experience in public health. Although this a temporary role, I believe it will help me in my career.
As a Research Officer, my role will include in systematic reviews on public health interventions, managing projects from protocol development through to publication. Conducting comprehensive literature searches across multiple databases including PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane will also be part of my role.
As a Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) leader, I facilitated weekly study sessions supporting first-year students in understanding complex course material in the subject of public health. I developed engaging learning activities, encouraged collaborative discussions, and helped students improve their academic performance through active learning techniques. I attended regular training sessions to enhance my facilitation skills and worked closely with faculty to align PAL sessions with course objectives. With my PAL experience, I was rewarded with a certificate as I attended on time to all my scheduled lessons, this proves my commitment to the role and how determined I am as an individual.
