
I successfully completed PGCE in Secondary Mathematics with Cornwall School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) in July 2025, achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). As part of my training, I completed two secondary school placements in Cornwall. My first placement was at Richard Lander School from September 2024 to December 2024, followed by my second placement at Penair School from January 2025 to July 2025. These placements enabled me to develop a deep understanding of effective classroom practice within diverse learning environments.
During both placements, I observed numerous lessons delivered by experienced mathematics teachers, which allowed me to build a strong foundation in pedagogical approaches and subject-specific teaching strategies. I progressed from supporting and delivering parts of lessons to confidently planning and teaching full mathematics lessons across a range of year groups and abilities. Throughout this process, I applied a variety of evidence-informed pedagogical techniques to enhance student engagement, promote mathematical reasoning, and support the individual needs of learners.
I developed effective behaviour management skills and learnt how to create structured and purposeful learning environments. My mentor and subject lead consistently noted my ability to establish a calm, positive, and productive classroom atmosphere where students feel supported and able to succeed. I also regularly assessed student understanding and adapted my teaching accordingly to ensure that all pupils made meaningful progress.
My passion for mathematics, combined with my dedication to fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment, continues to drive me to inspire confidence and enthusiasm in my students. I am committed to ongoing professional development and continually refine my practice through reflective learning, feedback from colleagues, and the use of evidence-based teaching methods. Additionally, my experience as a mother of a 13-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old son provides me with valuable insight into child development and the importance of nurturing positive educational experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
