INTERNAL MEDICINE: I rotated through respiratory,

endocrinology and dermatology.

Attended to both out and in-patient care. I

managed both new and follow up cases.

I was responsible for taking detailed patient

history and performing examinations, requesting

laboratory investigations and interpretation.

I managed and prescribed medications for

patients, taking into consideration co existing

medical conditions and drug interactions.

I presented patient history during consultant ward

rounds and this formed basis of patient

management.

I performed basic procedures like insertion of IV

cannulas, blood sample collection, blood

transfusion, administration of IV medications.

I performed basic bedside investigations like PCV,

urinalysis, and random blood sugar.

presentation at departmental meetings/ audits

In the Medical emergency unit, I carried out initial

patient history taking and resuscitation.

I was exposed to cases such as diabetic

emergencies (DKA, HHS), pneumonia, acute

PSYCHIATRY:

PAEDIATRICS:

I had rotations in Neonatology, Emergency Paediatric

Unit, Special Care Baby Unit.

In each unit I was responsible for history taking

and examinations, venepunctures and

Cannulation.

I performed procedures such as paediatric

exchange blood transfusions, paediatric

cannulation, acute management of paediatric

emergencies such as acute severe asthma,

bronchiolitis, pneumonia, diarrhoea diseases,

malnutrition.

I was also on the rota for calls as the first on call

with other unit officers. I did my duty under the

supervision of senior medical officers and

paediatric consultants.

OBSTETRICS AND GYNAECOLOGY:

I attended to gynaecological emergencies, clinic

duty and labour ward.

In clinic duties, I attended to focused antenatal

care and gynaecological care .

I monitored pregnancies and ensured attending

pregnant women where on antenatal

medications like folic acids and haematinics,

malaria prophylaxis and tetanus cover.

I also cared for pregnancy women with co

existing medical conditions

In the Labour ward, I monitored labour, assisted in

the delivery of babies, I carried out deliveries of

babies in normal labour, actively managed the

3rd stage of labour, managed post partum

haemorrhage.

I assisted in caesarean sessions, myomectomy and

ovarian cyst removal, conducted blood

transfusions, cared for patients with

gynaecological emergencies like ectopic

pregnancies, severe menstrual pain, emergency

contraception, vaginal bleeding.

SURGERY:

I attended rotations in General Surgery, Orthopaedics

and Plastic Surgery.
